Shopping for 16" wheels for my 1-ton conversion. Sticker shock is hitting me, like it's going to be $1500-$2000 for 35" tires and wheels, not counting spare. :doah:

I have the CUCV wheels that came with the axles. I'm perfectly happy with the look (not sure about width, with 12.5" tire?). Anyway, is the weight savings for alloy worth even thinking about? Especially in back, I have those mega sized drums anyway...

Thoughts?

Steel is def. cheaper than alloy in most cases. In my situation, i went with steel in a 15" but thats because i used a d44 8 lug up front instead of the d60, there fore i could use a 15" steel wheel all the way around and only paid like 65$ a wheel from Summit. If i were u, i wouldnt really worry about the weight concerns, hell u have a 14ff and a d60-they already weight alot. Most of the guys i've seen that have concerns about weight issues just run smaller axles/tires anyway. I know it can be hard sometimes to find a cheap 16"and up steel wheels, but i know there are some out there. This is just my .02. good luck

i prefer steel. i run low air pressure on trails and they wont chip or crack and if you bend a lip you can bend it back. if you want to save some money try craigslist you can find good deal on used tires and wheels.
