Weight redux -- motorless? What\'s a 350 V8 weigh?

I know we've thrashed the what-does-your-rig-weigh thing to death, but ... do y'all happen to know what a 350 weighs? I'm trying to figure what a '74, with no motor, would weigh.

SBC 585, BBC 685 is what I have heard.

Agree. Depending on the accessories, a small block will run between 500-550Lbs and a big block 100-150Lbs more

My GM 350 Crate (no intake or above) was shipped with the wooden crate at a shipping weight of 450. My guess without the shipping crate but with intake and carb, you are looking at around 450-500. The type of exhaust could then make a big impact. Headers weigh a lot less (usually) than the cast exhaust manifolds.

Rule of thumb is 550lbs with everything but AC compressor, power steering pump, and exhaust (full length headers usually weigh the same as manifolds). If you've got aluminum heads and intake that scrounges a lot of weight off.

People usually knock 180lbs off that if it's a LS1.

I do believe that a '74 with no motor or radiator (and presumably therefore with no coolant or gas in the tank) will be halfway safe to tow with a 5000# tow bar. <big grin>

Now I just gotta wait till the wife is out of town... and with the money I save towing the truck myself, I can hire a good lawyer for the divorce proceedings when she comes home to find I got another Blazer! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
