So i know this has been covered time and again. So i took the truck wheeling and the 60 did ok. almost acts like a posi(im used to ifs which seems to spin seperate all the time). BUt as evolution of a vehicle would have it i want more.

what can i expect from welding my 60. current setup is '79 k30, chipped vortech, soon to be 4.1 case, 4.10s and 38's, maybe 44 tractor meats.

im new here to all, i did that to my 60 and i hated it. i didnt turn 37s well at all locked like that. it drove much better with one hub locked it but that defeats the purpose. that was on the trails with lots of turns, so i changed the steering and thought that would help but no.... i had to put in a detroit locker...for how i use it it seems real durable but wasnt too cheap....

If this is a front 60 we are talking about, then welding it will make it very hard to turn on a hard surface. If you have hydro assist it shouldnt be a big deal.

I have Detroits and love them.

yeh i have hydro assist. which works ok. but with a drilled out pump i have to clear 1100rpms to steer as it is. ...i want the added traction but is this going to bring the suck?

If your steering isn't up to snuff, your not gona like it.

On you hydro assist, Try a smaller pulley to speed up the pump.

although I don't have a 60, I have a 10 bolt welded with hydro and crossover. Steering works fine. Pump has the mods done to it.

I have a detroit in rear and run 2 wheel drive when I can, 3 wheel drive otherwise (one hub locked in) and 4 wheel when I absolutely have to.

It does hurt the turning radius as you lock in each hub plus the vehicle wanting to go straight since the front is pulling also and going in a straight line takes less force.

I do have my 205 twin sticked and will run front only to turn sharper but requires more shifting of the t-case. I just heard about the front dig with the brakes engaged so gonna play with that next.

what brand of hydro assist do you guys have? i want to do that but dont know what to buy, should i send out my box and pump and get a cap??

There are a few options, and they are all good, rocklogic, ORD......... Its not hard to drill and tap the box yourself, same with the pump mods, and You dont need a cap.

i have a extra box, where do i find the info about where to drill the holes for the lines?? and what do you have to do to the pump??

ok thanks alot, ill have to look into that and see what i can do. thanks again

I have a 60 with a welded front and I like it. I have hydro assist and run 37s. It is no different than a detroit under power, it steers the same way. It does take a different driving style, you cannot drive it like its open you have to learn how your truck handles it and drive it how it wants to be driven, if that make any sense at all.

Plus it was free where a detroit for me is $600. I will be going to drive slugs when it goes offroad only.

Dik

yeh if you remember my truck it was straight and clean well. labor day solved that real quick. it will be offroad only come sept....and on the pump, i think it might be modded too much. like too much flow. and for the smaller pulley. im not sure thats my solution. as at 2500rpm i have a turbo under hood(thats what it sounds like)
