I am building a doubler cross member and using bushing assemblys like these.

I assume you have the take the bushing back out before fully welding it once fitted and tacked. So what is the easiest way to get the bushings back out?

I used some WD40 to get the bushings in and out during mock up. I used that type of bushing setup for my spare tire pivot points.

Antiseize is your friend.

Now, you're welding on the outer sleeve, right? Getting the poly insert out should be a snap, especially if, as mentioned, you snotted 'em first.

Obviously in the long term you're gonna grease 'em, but the antisneeze will help assembly.

I just greased them. Just find a socket a little smaller than the outer diameter of the metal inside and hit it out, the bushings come out pretty easy then.

MUSKuLES:D

I saw a guy machine some aluminum "bushings" to go in place of the poly bushings for setup purposes. He could then weld everything as much as he wanted without destroying the poly bushing. When it came time to put it all back together, he just inserted the poly bushing and everything was exactly where it should have been.

I machine steel pucks that substitute for the poly including the poly shoulder. Works pretty good. Obviously not something everybody can do when needed.

Grease it all up good and push the inner sleeve out first, then the poly's can be persuaded much easier.

If ya weld with the polys in, beware the hot glob of oozing poly urethane.:haha:
