I prefer old school flip up mask I weld most of the day and auto dark always provides opportunities to have you’re eyes burned. For a first timer it can be fun to have an auto dark but it’s a big discourager to have your eyes burned.

ive welded 8 hours a day every working day for the past year, and the only time i have burnt my eyes or even have them bother me afterword is when the helmet doesn't come down fast enough (or im quicker than it) or i just forget that i have it up (happens more than i would like to admit). i couldn't do my job at the speed they require without an auto darkening helmet.
