Threw my driveshaft once more. Driveline vibes were driving me crazy, and the ujoint on the axle pinion kept moving around in the straps. Well I hammered on it today, and the ujoint popped right out of the straps and the caps flew off.

Then the yoke fell out of the t-case and the shaft just laid there on the ground.

Anyway, I had my straps tightened as tight as the bolts would go, and the joints still slid out somehow. Could my straps be messed up or what? Could this have to do with my shaft being out of balance?

I need to figure this problem out once and for all, because I can't afford to keep ruining exhaust and t-cases by throwing my shaft. And I can't keep calling friends once a week to come pick me up on the side of the road...

I would imagine that you have the wrong size ujoint in it. If your angles are bad, it could be eating up the guts of the ujoint. Once there is slop in there, it doesn't take much more to pitch one.
Did you put all of the clips in?? I have left one out before and it caused the dshaft to go flying.

I did not put clips on the joint here the straps attach. How can they be the wrong joint? They fit just fine. Everything was fine for a year after I lifted it until a few months ago when a neglected ujoint gave out.

When you replaced the failed joint did you replace the straps and bolts? The straps are known weak areas on these axles that is why everyone is offering ubolt style for the bigger joints.

Also when the joint went out did it egg the yoke mounts any? It sounds to me like your yoke is damaged and not allowing the ujoint caps to properly be captured and therefore they go flying.

Well I replaced the slip yoke and it's fine. The yoke on my axle seems to be in good shape. The straps are what aren't in very good shape, and I even bought a set from Advance Auto Parts, but the holes on them don't line up to my axle.

I'm thinking maybe it was because the straps are bad, because everytime I would tighten them down, and drive it, the caps would move around in there, and after about 10 minutes of driving I would have servere vibes because of it, and I would have to get out and readjust my joint because it shifted to one side in the straps.

Also, I think my tailshaft seal is kind of bad, but would this cause the shaft to break loose the axle?

I need u-joint straps for my rear 10 bolt. I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Well now I'm looking for some beefier ones, if possible. I don't see any for 10 bolts though. It looks like those Moroso ones would help me out.

If that's not possible for my axle, anywhere online sell the OEM parts? I don't feel like dealing with dealerships...

The Moroso ones would probably work great for you, just make sure that they have the right separation between the bolt holes and make sure that your driveshaft won't bind (the Moroso caps are thicker than your stock straps)

If you're looking for stock replacement straps, Spicer should make them. Find a place that sells Spicer stuff and you should be able to get the straps from them.

Uh, I kinda need the ones from my front yoke don't I? Lol, I never thought about how the thick straps might rub the shaft of the joint. That might actually pose a problem...

I'm just not sure which ones I need for my axle, there's so many choices...

What type of joints should I use for my Jimmy? So this time I don't buy the wrong ones. Last time I just told the guys at the parts stores what I had and that's what U-joints I got.

It's a 208 with slip yoke and a stock rear axle and d-shaft.

I'm guessing 1350s?

i dont need them, i havent used 4 wheels in a while. temporary i guess. i used to have these straps coming out of my ears but i have since given them out to my freinds and stuff.

Okay, 1310, so that means I have to get straps that are that size for the bearing caps or whatever.

All this driveline stuff is confusing. Way too much different stuff out there, it's hard to find exactly what I need/want.

How should you put the clips on the joint if there's nothing for them to hold onto. The clips go on after you put the caps into the slip yoke to hold the caps from sliding out of the slip yoke. I guess I could put them on after I put the straps on. They weren't like that from the factory though....

They should be a Saginaw S44 joint Carquest # 2-3011. They are easy to identify as they use inside snap rings as compared to the Spicers that use outside snap rings. Make sure you install all the snap rings. If you don't install the snap rings on the yoke end the u-joint cap wil squirt out within a few miles because the yoke does not have any ears to hold the cap in place.

I can't find any with the bolt holes spread apart as far as mine. My holes are about 1.75 inches apart center to center....

Do I have some kind of strange yoke on my rear end or what?
