The chain on the pirana thing is a low kickback chain & dull and the 18v dewalt grinder spins slooow, so the cut is slow and dirty and stinky. With a proper grinder and sharp chain, finish/texture and ease of cut/preciesion would be waaaay easier. That's also as far as I could go on fully charged battery. Not as obnoxious as I thought it would be. Rubber dust/chips down my paintleg, no more obnoxious that wood chips from a chainsaw. Safe enough, assuming you're not an idiot.

I might put an edge on the chain and slap it on my plug in dewalt, see how that goes.

How about a tire groover?

........ :rolleyes:

No sh!t? A tire groover....A device that which you can groove tires with? Isn't that what is shown in the picture? It doesn't have to say "tire groover" on it to be effective at putting a groove in a tire. Also...do you have a device....that says tire groover on it? I'm guessing no...Neither do I. :whistle:

I should carve up a tire with an actual chainsaw...36" bar maybe? Just to get the armchair dooders squawking. :haha::popcorn:

Wow it does work! I saw that blade the other day and almost bought one. Given my history of grinder accidents I may have to buy a suit of armor before attempting to save my Iroks. :waytogo:

I have 110v if you want to use it but if you want to use a saw be my guest

Well, I didn't sharpen it, but I did try it with the big boy grinder. Just underscored how badly it needs sharpening. At full throttle, it basically just melted it's way through the tire. Turned the rubber into sticky snot. If it was sharp, would be waaaay better.

If you want to use the electric I can ship it to you. I haven't used it in years.

nah...don't worry about it. The hot knife/electric ones are boring. I've used them all before. This is waay more fun. :D

they make them for circular saws to 7 1/4 inch i believe up to 14 inch i believe seen them in a lawn mower shop on day had to get on works awsome on a weedeater:whistle::whistle::whistle:

:eek1:I would hate to see that chain break. No guard? Hopefully it only trims your fingernails. Maybe some kevlar gloves and body suit.:haha:

Grinders with guards:haha::haha::haha:

That type of grooving would take forever with a normal groover. Even a while with a good groover

The only time I ever felt compelled to install a guard on a grinder was....never. Suiting up in the leather space suit when either putting a 6" cut off disc on a 4.5" grinder, or, a worn out 14" wheel from a chop saw on a 9" grinder. 6" on a 4.5 isn't to bad, the wheels are rated for the speed. BUt a fresh 6" wheel on a 4.5" grinder puts the edge of the spinning blade less than an inch from your right hand/trigger hand.

The 14" on a 9" machine is the most damn sketchy thing I've ever done with a grinder. :eek1: The wheels are rated 3500-4000rpm. The big grinders do 7000-9000rpm. You MUST feather the throttle, or BOOM. It's quite a spectacle when a big ass cutt off wheel explodes at 9k rpm. :O

If you wanna suit up and go for a ride, assuming you've got the stones to hang on...Put a big knotted cup wire brush on a 9" grinder....then go get down on cleaning up some diamond plate steel with it. :O Yeeeehaaa!!
