Welp, the 2019 Chevy Blazer dropped today...

Ford did that back in 1987 with their press releases about their upcoming 1989 Mustang. Modern styling, front wheel drive, four cylinder engine, and lots of Mazda goodness. Good idea, right?

It went over like a lead brick because people liked the Fox body in its (then) current form.

I don't see that happening now because nearly every new car buyer has forgotten what anything from 1973 was like. Even the last year square Blazers are nearly 30 years old now (and 1st gens are downright ancient!). They're not destroying a beloved nameplate. They're pulling a nameplate out of the landfill of forgotten and unloved cars.
Isn't that a Probe?

It comes down to having a few task specific vehicles or a bunch of sameness.
A swiss army knife is not a replacement for real tools.
It can get by in a pinch, but not suitable for real everyday work.

But I am coming to realize, that most people are computer nerds and bean counters these days.
At least the people buying new vehicles.
The mechanic crowd builds their own rigs.
This new Prius clone by Chevy is essentially my fault because I have not, nor ever will, buy any new vehicle.
I buy old rolling junk and fix it up.
As such, there is no market for people like me.
So rather than the world being wrong, I am wrong for expecting the world to be like me.
To cater to my needs when I wouldn't spend 40k on a truck even if they brought the 1973 K5 back verbatim, as the 2019 Blazer.
I'd still by an old junker and fix it up for a few grand.

But this Prius clone still pisses me off personally.

I never knew it had Mazda lineage.

I swear that I read that the Probe was a Lotus design, or Lotus had a hand in it.

Back when I had a 1995 Ford Contour,I learned it was introduced earlier overseas,as a "Ford Mondeo"...it was based on a Mazda 626 design, and Ford had some shares in Mazda at the time (which is why the Ranger pickups and Mazda's were clones of each other)..

The Contour also used the 24V 2.5 V6 that was a Mazda design,(with some Yamaha influence I've heard),that was used in many Mazda cars, and even in a few Nissan mini-vans..

You may notice later years of the Ford Taurus look a lot like Volvo's from behind, they have nearly identical tail lights and overall design..since Ford also owns part of Volvo,I guess that should come as no surprise either..

We're driving more imported vehicles than we think, even if they have an "American" name on the grille..

Just makes you glad you have an old one....and I also agree that they shouldn't use the name....maybe a Blazzier (blah-zeer)

Swing and a miss! Not only is it sooooooooooooooooooooooooo far from a blazer but it looks like a Ford Interceptor.

GM screwed the pooch on this just like the GTO. I had an ‘06 GTO, it hauled ass and was fun to drive but looked like a Grand Am.

We all want a retro style Blazer but we know none of us would buy one because we are cheap and broke. The new car buyer will pick up a Blazer because it has a cool entertainment system and gets good gas mileage. Just a change of the times.

The original GTO started as a package on the Tempest so it was really a tempest with a bigger engine and sportier trim before it was it's own model. In the mid '00s it was the Grand Am so it was modeled after that. I think it should have had it's own look but it was one hell of a sleeper, just like the SS sedan. It could have been a lot better though.

That said, I actually don't hate the look of the new Blazer. Is it a Blazer in the traditional sense? No but the name was ruined back when they started making S10 Blazers. At least it's Camaro derived bits are edgy and will help it to stand out a little from all the other cross over blobs out there. Where I think it's lacking is in the performance department. It has all the bark but none of the bite.

It's funny how automotive trends change, the mainstream family cars used to be station wagons, then mini vans, then SUVs, and now cross overs. I can't wait until cross overs soon become "uncool" like all the other family haulers of yesteryear.

this new POS will be one more obstacle for me as I am searching for parts for my real TRUCK , the s10 Blazer,Jimmy crap is bad enough at polluting my searches now this Pile
