It's a '71 GMC, in great shape. It has a V8 (not factory, unknown cid), the SM465 4spd, and the NP205 tcase. Axles look like d44/12b. Completely unmolested, guy who had it and drove it took good care of it. Body is straight as an arrow. Top of windshield frame and passenger side rocker are the only major rust spots. All the trim/lenses/factory stuff. Manual steering box, no A/C, does have Power Brakes. Guy says it's an eyesore and just wants it gone...so we'll get it cheap!:D:D

What do you guys think?

i think i hate you........... in a good way.

dude, that drivetrain, wagon wheels, full convert, so what if it needs a little work, that would make an awesome retro wheeler. Id throw a 4-53t in it, with an NV4500 tranny, a mild lift, modern mud tires, but keep the wagon wheels, fix up the rust and whatnot. Pure awesome.

especially seeing as its a Jimmy, the Detroit Diesel "Screamin Jimmy" simply must be done. dont forget the jake brakes, oh and the air starter instead of the battery powered one.

that is such an awesome find! the fact that if you ever needed to sell it you would make big profit! i would throw that diesel in there though and make it my DD!!!!

Hopefully this one will live a mild, stock life. My dad will most likely DD it. We want to just spend what we have to, and get it running and driveable. No lift, A/T's, keep it mostly factory. (But that's what we all think when we first get something right:D?)

well actually, the 4-53t would be a great DD swap. 20mpg on the highway, 400+ lbft of torque, you can run it on SVO all day long, so basically you could have free fuel if you know the right people...... just sayin.

well, find me a 4-53t that runs, plus the gazillion other nit-picky, nickel-and-dime parts, and someone who knows about detroits to help with the install, all for less than what it would cost to do a tune up on the existing engine and take about the same amount of time so I can be driving it....

and I still wouldn't do it. :haha::wink1: I went through the engine swap/rebuild for my '73, and that's enough for my blood. If it ain't broke...don't fix it. I also don't want to mod this thing crazy since it's not a junker platform (compared to what i'm used to, one that's hacked and molested:doah:)

because if I did the detroit swap...I'd want to do custom shiny paint that was all about my "Screaming Jimmy":D and then it'd be a mall crawler. I still want this thing to do some hard work when it needs to.:haha:

All else aside, I see your sig about wanting a first gen body swap. you have the diesel and know what you want. I want to run what I got.

thats true, if it aint broke then leave it alone. now when the motor gives out then maybe you could consider it but i would fix the rust, do a DIY paint job and get it reliable and drive it.

touche' - it is far easier to spend other peoples money, as much as i rave about the coolness of the aforementioned drivetrain, i havent put it in my truck for the same reasons youve listed.

I'm gonna get the numbers off the block if I can....any other way to tell it's a 396 right off the bat? Came stock with the 307 according to the build sheet.
