I flagged down a dude with a sick first gen the other day, and of course he's super cool and called me up to go wheel today. I'm still without plates so I just rode shotty for today, but soon there will be some pics of both of us representing the only first gen's in Humboldt.

Some specs:

'72 with a 383, 6" lift with kings on all corners, 14BSF/D44 locked f/r on 35's. Pretty sweet ORD designed bumper too, I'll be using his to design mine, just tucking it in closer to the grill.

It is a good way to big time reduce the effectiveness of the shocks. For shocks that long punching a hole in the bed and wheel tubs and shooting for a plumb install is the only way to go in my opinion or get shocks that fit.

nICE RIDE BUT YEAH WHAT A WASTE ON THOSE REAR SHOCKS!

lETS SEE SOME PICS OF WHAT IS HIDING UNDER THE TARP.......

The rear shocks are definitely goofy.... at a 45 degree angle (which those appear to be) the shock is only at 70% effectiveness.

Having said that, since those are high-zoot Kings they could also have been re-valved to somewhat compensate for the lost effectiveness and may actually ride pretty well...

The only problem that can't be overcome is that the effective travel of the piston (compared to actual wheel travel) is going to be quite small. From a damping perspective it's going to be hard to properly absorb say, 3" of wheel travel over a bump with only 1" of piston travel.

My guess is that the guy doesn't want to cut big holes in his bed for shock towers.... (or) he got a screaming deal on a set of used Kings that were way too big for his application. A badly installed set of Kings is probably still a better ride than a perfectly installed set of cheap junk shocks. :D

Looks more setup to jump than crawl but non-the-less very nice rig.

Both!
It used to be a super clean truck (still is for the most part) but then he tumped it at the Samoa Dunes just recently and gave him the courage to cut things up. I think he has plans for inboarding them soon.

Either way it's just nice to have someone else in town who wheels, and it makes it even better that it's a first gen blazer... :D
