what about a np241?

how is the gearing on the 350? with out the overdrive wouldnt i be better off with the 4.56 for 35's? i still dont get this gear thing. info overload... think i smell somethin burning...help my skull is on fire....dont want it to be a dog around town to save a little gas money on the highway. if i wanted to do that ida bought a import.

ok for a 3 speed. Personally, if I was you and knew that the tranny was going to get rebuilt anyway, I'd consider selling the th350 on craigslist and getting a th400 instead. Way stronger, better for towing. They are hella cheap to rebuild too. 32-spline np241s might be more common too... not sure.

Basically, what I do is figure out what the max normal speed will be on the freeway. If you drive 55 everywhere, fine... if you drive 80 everywhere... thats fine to. The point is, you need to know what kind of max speed you'll drive at so you can pick the right gears.

here is a handy chart. Personally, for the trannys sake and the fact that I don't want it to be like a dog in town, I tend to go with gears slightly lower than "optimal". Check out the chart with the green/yellow/red stuff. It shows gear ratio vs tire hieght and the resulting engine RPMs.
