Seems like a good number of us are planning on this or doing it. What are your plans, hows it coming along, what are you doing it to, pictures, etc etc.

me:

93 fullsize blazer
taken almost a year to get all my parts, $$$, and space to start it since I bought my D60 off ebay. right now its goin on 4 weekends of total build time plus some weeknights. Set up is looking like +-8 in over stock on some used 38.5 dick cepeks. ford D60 up front (just got ring&pinion for it:D), radius arms, coilovers, crossover steering. D60 out back 4.88s and a detroit with shackle flip and 4" springs. the blazer should be sitting on its own after this weekend and then I will have to take care of plumbing, a brake job, and other misc stuff.

I originally wanted to upgrade to the 3/4 ton front end to get the arb locker and some strength. too much effort for reward. so ill find a sas swap kit thats hopefully coil spring or coilover. does it have to be driver or pass drop? i have an 81 k5 with a d44 in front, will that work? or should i make the 81 my trail rig? the yukon is my dd and someday family hauler.:smile1: basically my choice is pimp the yuke, or the k5. i want something that can get me lost for a week in the woods and be self-sufficient.

descisions, descisions, and my parents are trying to get me married.:surepal:

what do you guys think?

sounds like you need to hold off on marriage and focus on your vehicles right? :D

If you decide to use the k5 as the wheeler and you think at some point you would maybe end up going to 3/4 running gear on that then you would have a 44 front for the yukon. That would need a passenger side drop/t case though. As far as coils/coilovers I dont know of anyone who makes an SAS kit for 88-98 chevys specifically yet but there are a few conversion kits for older and newer chevys.

somehow i think itll be best that i keep the yuke the way it is because its been in the fam-damily since it was built. the 81 jimmy, on the other hand, is/was a projekt vehicle since we bought it years ago. my dad wants to get into fourwheeling again so i think the jimmy will be the buildup of choice. besides, $1500 will get me pretty good mods to that old thing.

I still want to SAS my 92, but not gonna happen any time soon. Right now just want to be able to drive it. Got a tranny for it, maybe this weekend I can put it in. Rear brakes, exhaust then should be good to go.

But if/when I SAS it, not gonna be anything major. Probly staying with 1/2 tons, Ford HP up front, rear is still up in the air. Maybe 9", 12 bolt, maybe a 6 lug Dana 60. But max tire is gonna be 35s. I have 6 lug rallys from the older style Blazers, I think it looks good like that, so want to stay 6 lug and under 35s.....

My Build

My dad and I SASd my 96 Chebby truck over a year ago. I began its life as a 2wd. The short story is i stripped it down had two frames in the driveway one ton axles everywhere bed beside the house engine and tranny in garage. it was a nice 78 degree Texas day when i called my dad to come help me put it back together. He said he would be up the next day to help me knock it out. When he arrived that next day it was 31 degrees and snowing(NO B.S.). We put it back together in about 8Hrs with alot of beer drinking along the way to keep "WARM". We used alot of the dont try this at home we are trained professional idiot methods(dont laugh they work). I could have dove it that day if i would have had a driveshaft that fit. A week later after waiting on the driveshaft i was rollin on 44s. Fast forward to the present. My dad passed away Oct 06 from a stroke at the age of 46. After that the truck sat for a long time. Lost intrest. Then regained a little. Went from riding on 44" TSL to 35" Ground Hawgs. May of 07 i get deployed to the sand box for the second time. Plans when i get back are to get the parts that i have bought (mostly from fellow Member b454rat) and finish what was started what seems so long ago.

454-

I hear you on the driveability. I'm a little concerned about mine, sure there will be lots of bugs to work out but even the down time and not having it sucks. You were planning on dropping a 454 in the blazer and do the SAS right? I was eager to see that but its sounds like theres still plans for it. The 6 lug rallys are a really cool idea too.

T Spurger-

I think I fell in love with your truck when I first saw it on the ORU site on 40s. Looked awesome on 40's but what made you decide to go 35s and what are the future plans?

I sold just about everything off the 89, including the 454. I have a 400 that I'm gonna put in, not quite a 454, but when I get done with it, should do OK. Right now just want to drive it. I got a tranny for it, just need to get some seals and filter kit, and then the time and hopefully above 30 degree weather to put it all in.

Course now that I got rid of all the SAS stuff, the old man tells me that when they retire, I can use the garage to work in. But like I said, when I do it, it's most likely gonna be 1/2 ton stuff. I'm gonna be building my S-10 Blazer to wheel with, want to make the full size something nice.....

long tubes

long tubes dont fit with a oru kit well not on my friends truck they didnt

if i ever get a 60 for my s10, the burb will get the 44 that is in the s10 right now. they both have 14FF rears, so i would really just need a front end.

SAS COMPLETE!

still need front 4.88s and ft driveshaft. doing a build thread for 2doortech.com so I'll probably copy and paste it over here when I get around to doing it in the next few weeks.

I guess I never posted any
previously  <-- what a lazy SOB

I have GOOD pics from removing
all the IFS junk and the early phases
of building the new front suspension.
At that point I lost my camera though
so I had to rely on the 1.3 megapixel
camera phone. heres some pics to
summarize the build until then:
