after this weekend my battery is ****ed and im gonna go get a new one, wonderin what you guys are runnin. reason i ask is im running a 150 watt amp , and a 650 what amp, auxillarys, cb, and i was wondering if this hurts my battery or what in the long run

I ran a yellow top Optima in my Mustang. That was with full power everything, under-drive pulleys, and 850 watts in amps. It was what I found to work best with that combo since at idle charging was down with the under-drives, yet I was pulling allot of power. I also upgraded to a 200 amp alternator.

Smart thing would be to run dual batts. in the K5 its easy to do, there is a factory tray (can get from LMC) that goes on the drivers side area in front of the windshield washer fluid resevoir.

Im running redtop OPtima as primary and yellow top as back up (aux). Im using the Hellroaring isolator kit.

With a flip of the switch I can combine the battery for more power, in normal position they both get charged , etc.

im intriqued:thinking:

Talk to ryoken, the isolator kits are not ideal... He has better ways to go about it. :wink1:

I just run mine parallel. The downside is that both batts will drain equally if there is a problem. The good side is that I have double the amperage 100% of the time.

yup, lots and lots of ways to go about it, from simple to fancy...

I prefer an ACR and parellel solenoid to an isolator system...

I have an isolator, not sure about the other terms, but how my system works is like this. Im using my 2nd batt. strictly as a backup. You can use it as aux batt , which would run some accessories off it and some off the main. I didnt want to do this. I wanted my 2nd batt. to never have a draw on it, so it will always be fully charged and ready to go.

On the kit I have, there is a 3 pos. switch,

Pos 1 - takes the 2nd batt outa of the system and wont be charged by alt.

Pos 2 - puts the 2nd batt in the system but there is no draw on it but gets charged by the alt.

Pos 3 - puts the 2nd batt in the system and combines the 2 batts. for more juice aka winching, etc.

I really like the Hellroaring setup, that is why I choose it. Some ppl have used FORD Starter solinoids to build a nice setup, its cheap, easy and works (if done right)

see that system sounds like somthing id use, keeping the second battery strictly for emergenceys, id still like to know about the others though

Oh by all means, get educated. I like to see what other ppl come up with and how their systems work for them. Its what its all about. ;)

thats right about where you lost me,lol what is ac, parrallel and isolator?

ACR = alternator charging relay

It has a few advantages over an isolator...

a parellel switch or solenoid simply combines banks #1 and #2... Throw in a marine switch and you have the most flexable system available... #1 or 2 can be a main, they both charge, can be combined temporarily with the parellel switch/solenoid or permenantly by running in "both" with the marine switch..

You can check out my setup in my build thread if your interested...

If by some crazy chance you haven't seen it....
