What can be done to a 305 to make it better.

If the 305 and the 350 have the same stroke but different bores, then can it be bored? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

You can't take it that far of an overbore , I think you'd hit a water jacket /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif But you can order a 334 kit from Powerhouse and do a .030 over stroker . It is daring to be different , but I think a 350 will make more power for the same cash outlay . I still like my 305 , its all I got that runs right now /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

same as any other engine
crank a can of compression into it
get the best heads you can find to feed it
free flowing exhaust with as little back pressure as possible (this means no Flowmasters)

at least 10:1 compression, I would go higher
overkill the cylinder heads with a race oriented selection

look at what worked in PHR Enginemaster Challenge
over 12.5:1 on 92 octane pump gas
I was following the Ford 351C camps, Kaase won with a 410" 351C at about 699hp at a streetable rpm
another one, Dave MacLain team 335, that put down over 650hp was at 12.3:1 and never had a hint of detonation
the rules were twisted to keep the 351C out of the game but even with the vintage stock factory block it came out on top
I think 6 of the top 10 were Fords

compression makes power, heads make power, intake manifolding makes power
