Thinking about beefing up my 700r4. Its already in my 84 k5 and bolted to a 5.7L. Really all I will be doing with it is alot of ghost town hunting and the occasional rock crawl to get to said ghost towns. Might be running 33-35in tires soon too once I get my lift. Advice?

in Arizona,,, a big cooler and keep the fluid clean, make sure your rear gearing is adequate for your tire size.

Cooler
Servos
Valve Body

In that order, then you get into stuff that's more extensive. I highly recommend the servos. I've posted a thorough write up on it on a couple different forums a few years back. If you look up my username and 4l60e servo upgrade on Google you'll probably find one of them. It only takes about 30-45 minutes to do once you've done it once or twice. Don't even have to drain the pan to do it.

Fine for a wheeler, but for a more multi purpose rig the overdrive opens up many more options. I've spent enough of my life listening to engines spin at 3000 rpm on the freeway.

700R-4, run nice deep gears and enjoy much better low end snap, as well as sane cruising rpm's.

There was once a time when I would have argued this until I died, now I couldnt agree more.

it's like trying to drag carb guys into this century.... :haha:

Without trans removal, a Corvette servo to help second gear band application is cheap and easy and a shift improvement kit with a .500 tv boost valve would help. Superior sells a valve body kit that is very simple to install and will give you nice results for your intentions. As others have said, a big cooler and matching your gears to your new tire sizes will go a long way for trans longevity.

OK, got me there, I was thinking short distances to said trails and such, not highway....35's shouldn't be bad @1.1 though would they?

Your right Paul, given the choice I still gotta go carb $$$...I'm just not a computer guy $$$$.:dunno: But maybe when I need to run my truck on a steep incline for more than a few seconds I'll change my mind.:woot:

Awesome thanks guys. Gonna try and get a grip on all of that. Thanks for the help again!

Good luck, post back and let us know what you've done for mods, and how you like em.:thumb:
