Ok what is screwed up if the column shifter won't shift. It does but with the key in the wrong position.

I dropped the column to replace the ignition switch on top of the column. Found out I had the wrong one. Found another one I had that is identical put it all in and now the column shifter will only shift in the off position on the key switch .

What did I mess up.

I know dumb question but my head is bad so doing all this with what most would consider a severe headache has me not quite thinking so good

I can't offer any help! It doesn't make sense to me, since you don't take the column apart really for the ignition switch!
There has to be something about the timing of the lock and actuator rod that is off????
But you would know that !

Sounds like you got an ignition switch for a not tilt column. Normally it won't work without shortening the rod (I know I did it before). When you install a non tilt switch on a tilt column, the switch works backwards. It will go one position forward and three backwards.

Get a switch for the type of column you have. Putting the wrong type in either will get a switch that works backwards of normal.

Switch is correct. I pulled it off a tilt column. I have a tilt column

I recall new ignition switches being packaged with a plastic pin to lock the switch in the correct position while installing it--so the key will be in the correct position in relation to the switch..

I've never had to replace an ignition with the colum in the truck, but I did one with it removed long ago..the switch has slotted mounting holes so there is a bit of adjustment there, but I think in your case the "gears" on the lock cylinder that operate the rod going to the switch may have slipped and now the "throw" on the rod is off--.

No it was just in the wrong spot. But now it won't start. Not even coughing :angry1:

No it's cranking awesome.

Just not starting at all

Not even with starting fluid

I must have knocked something off or blown a fuse or something weird but it's dark and raining and I can't push it in the garage

This is one of the diesels? There shouldn't be anything you can do to prevent it from firing on starting fluid. :dunno:

I guess I misunderstood. I'm clueless on 6.2 wiring.

No you understood just fine.

The ignition switch was in the wrong spot as you suggested.

I have had a very very bad headache all day and sometimes even the simplest things can cause much frustration and grief.

The not starting thing is a new thing

After replacing the starter, ignition switch and redoing the cables with 1/0 wire

Can't have that...

"when the machine breaks down we all break down..go cry to brigade on your own time. Out here in the bush your ass belongs to me!"

If it's spinning and has fuel it has to be related to the glow plug circuit. Ground the light blue wire going to the GP controller (Rear/top of the engine)to activate the glow plugs.

Dats the plan for morning check fuel. If I have fuel. Put in my switch for the glow plugs and sally forth

Pardon my ignorance...

Does this have a fuel shut off solenoid? Maybe its not opening on the "key on" circuit
