What do you guys think so far?

There's more than there appears and the motor is sitting a few inches too far forward. If I run a shorter aluminum rad or put the winch behind it and run a remote fairlead I'm confident I'll be fine. What looks like the front edge of the block is actually the front edge of the balancer pully, just didn't want to go into that kind of detail in the drivetrain model.
 
Alright, before I send these out I'm gonna warn everyone that my technique in SW SUCKS! I have very little formal training and this is meant to be a pretty rough model considering I don't want to emulate every nook and cranny of my rig. That being said, I'll get on sending these out.

Did you draw that as an assembly or a single part?

If it is a single part, I have a trick for you. Draw a rectangle below the buggy that is larger in both directions and then extrude it up so that it encompasses the entire buggy. Save the part and then check the file size. I bet you will be surprised at how small it is.

That trick works well when sending files amongst us CAD guys.:D :D
 
Started as an assembly, did something funky and it crashed but the one I saved as a part was fine so now it's a single part.

Yes it has, mall crawler on 32 a/t's to this and now it's not even going to be the same. The DMV is gonna throw a **** fit but oh well.

The 40's are staying for now, I don't even have the power and gears to turn them, plus I need to upgrade to alloy shafts and better joints. 44's would kick my ass.

Beast, if you've got suggestions, PM me or post 'em up. I'm taking a cad course but it's a worthless required one. "This is how you make a plane, this is how you extrude a feature." That's about all we've learned. Let me know what I can do to clean it up and condense it or make changes to my overall drawing style in the future.

Let me first state that my comments were no more than friendly ribbing.:D :D

It it obvious that you have a clear understanding of how to get what you want out of the software. The biggest part of design is being able to visualize the object first in your head, which obviously you can do (alot better than some of the guys I've hired BTW:doah: ).

My suggestions would be to draw that up as an assembly, which you said you did. That way you can more easily modify individual components of your model.

Second, extrude and cut with only fully defined sketches. Doing this will reduce the chance of screwing up a finished component when you make changes to another. You find that blowing up a design is much more common when you don't fully define your sketches.

Also, I find that creating components as solids rather than surface bodies allows you to do more with the design when changes are needed. When needing to find mass, volume and centers of gravity, having a solid makes all of that easier.

The more you use that software, the more you'll find your own ways of designing to suit your own needs.:D :D
 
Alright, decided to completely abandon the idea for a back seat. I just couldn't finagle the leg room and head room back there while keeping cost down and getting what I wanted out of it. I modified the back end (it's not done yet) to be shorter and more simple. If I luck out with the radiator, fan, and winch setup, I'll be able to cut the frame off right in front of the spring mounts have have an approach angle very close to 90 degrees. I'm going to use some Ramcharger springs to keep it low and the approach angle good. If I decide that a 90 degree approach is super important I'll put my current zero rates in there and push my axle out another 1.5".

EDIT: Also forgot to mention I modified some other things to use longer pieces of tube so I don't end up with so many notches coming together at one point. Notches are a pain in the ass and when there are 8 tubes coming together at one point it sucks even worse.

lookin' good. I'd put some kind of horizontal member on the lower portion of the far-back of your rig though. I'm sure you already knew this, and just hadn't put it in the model yet... but I thought I'd mention it. :)

Yep, it'll be there. I also reworked it again since the last drawing posted to make it easier to build. The a pillar/windshield are one big hoop now as is the b-pillar.
 
Latest version. I'm gonna try to make room for a rear winch above and behind the fuel tank. I'm gonna cut the frame off right in front of the front spring mounts and go for a 90 degree approach angle and set the wheelbase from there. I also decided that I'm going to run a single ended full hydro setup so I can eliminate steering clearance problems and sell my crossover setup to make a little money back. It'd take too much work and money to make conventional steering work with this setup.

I revised it so that the a-pillar/hoop and the b-pillar/hoop would both be one big piece. That way I can make the rockers and then make the b-hoop and leave it long and cut it shorter as neccessary. I'm about 6'5" tall so I need my head room, which is why it doesn't slope towards the center after it clears the front and rear "fender" bars. Do you guys think it looks too boxy or is it alright? I'll probably widen the front light hoop some too to clear some eight inchers. I'm also thinking about revising the front to integrate some Toyota car headlights or something.

how close is that tranny/tcase modeled to the real thing? looks like the centerline of that thing is a little high. know what im saying? maybe its just me.
