I love the look of my shortbed step-side, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't ever own a fleetside either. The worst part of owning a stepside is the rear fenders are extremely hard to come by in NOS fashion. Repops are made but they don't put the fuel doors in them, which is pretty stupid. As for usefulness, my dad and I used both of my trucks to get loads of dirt for his house and unloading the stepside was a ****ton easier then my dodge with a normal bed at stock height. Even with the chevy sitting on a 6" lift with 35's it was super easy. Plus them being rare makes it cooler when you do see one. Sometimes wish mine was a longbed though, would come in handy.

I honestly dont think I could pick one over the other. I guess Ill have to own one of each.

I prefer the clean lines of the fleetside...practicality issues IMO it's moot. We're not talking a work truck here and frankly both are good with the fleet having slightly more inside volume available.

For me it depends on if the truck is 2WD or 4WD. In 2WD i'll take a fleet every time, it's a much more sano look. For a 4x4 the Step gets the slight nod, it makes the rig look like a bulldog, burly, all business.

I am kind of partial to stepsides....well because i own one, but i also like fleetsides, especially all doo dadded up with gizmos and doohickeys, like Keiths red fleetside.....

When I was 16, all I wanted was a short bed stepside. I never got one, and over the years my tastes have changed - I now prefer the lines of a fleetside. I still like the stepsides ok, but they just seem to look a bit "unfinished" to me.

If its a two tone paint job, gotta be a fleetside box. IMO the two tone stepsides just look goofy.

The more I think about it the more I've decided I just like trucks period, Burbs are up there close though,K5's for some reason never really did it for me.

I prefer the stepside on the 73-87 vintage. Anything newer looks like crap, especially the extended cab ones GROSS.

But I will say that both fleet and step have their places. I like the stepside on a 4x4 because with the lift its really hard to get at stuff in the front of the bed unless you have a stepside. For the street it all depends on how it was put together. I've seen both look great and both look like crap.

I guess I get to do some pic whoring now:
