A little different...

Can a Chalet really handle rooftop cargo?

Nice. I might have punched up the camper stripes to be a little more vivid in yellow/orange tones like the '77 factory originals were, perhaps ...
I based it off of this one... probably a little more faded etc.

Aha. Chalet #1683. I gather the folks at the European company that put out the little 1:43 scale diecast collectible version used the 125 photos of #1683 at this 2016 dealer ad listing for their 3D software which generated the 3D printed master pattern. For that replica diecast, they replicated the stripes and logo letters exactly .... but what you see on #1683 was not actually faded vinyl stripes, they were incorrectly repainted (along with the logo letters) back in Feb 2010, and for some odd reason, the restoration shop didn't continue the stripes all the way down in the back as uninterrupted diagonals, they only retained what was likely the partly peeled away upper remaining portions. My own Chalet #1747 that I had in 2006-2010 was suffering from that same lousy vinyl adhesion peeling problem at that beltline area, but still had most of the bottom areas. Too bad on mine about the extra perimeter tape added to the stripes by the prior owner, put on no doubt to stop the edge peeling. Mine was kept out of the sun, so it had the least-faded '77 stripes I've seen.

Understood, same applies to my own avatar image, where folks will recognize it for what it is the same way. Wish I had your illustrator talent!

Recent former owner of Chalet #0099 used converted ladder racks for his surfboards and other stuff up there. Best to improve on the Chinook company's fiberglass & lousy wood structure, though, for peace of mind on what the roof can handle.
Yeah the roof structure leaves a lot to be desired, I already figured out how I will reinforce my orphaned chalet when I decide which vehicle will host it.
