i know nothing about audio but i was considering running these in a soon to be custom aluminum dash.http://marine.jlaudio.com/jlaudio_pages.php?page_id=56 1 set of components in the front. plus one of there 10" subs in a box in the back.

what do you think. bad idea? will it be enough to sound good over a big block and no top. any other good ideas? i will have alot of room on the dash. but not much room in the back (small box maybe 2'x1').

I'd run two 10's with full top and doors ( and I do ) and would two 12's in yours open ( I don't like too big personally I listen mostly to "music" ) .

Although no woofers equals less weight , and less weight is better wheeling :thumb:

im all for no woofer. well do you think just the JL 7.7"s and tweeters will be enough.

I drive a full 'vert and don't even have a radio yet but also have a hard time imagining how loud it would have to be to drown out the road noise(swampers) and the wind, etc. Those JL's are definitely some nice gear and I imagine they will require some power(external amp) even though I couldn't find any specs on that page you linked to. I've thought about building a center console/sub box between my two front seats with a downfiring sub to help add some bass but also keep it up front so it doesn't just go out the back of the truck since no top or doors makes it hard to keep the sound inside the vehicle.

with them mounted in the dash and facing you they will be heard as long as you have a good amp powering them. jl's are pretty top dollar speakers too.
