What do you use your K5 for?

I have a 1987 K10 350 TBI with an 8 foot bed I daily drive to work. I love this truck. I’ve owned the truck for 28 years. I bought the truck with 40,000 miles on it and it was like brand new. Truck has 234,000+ miles now and still has its original motor and drivetrain going strong. I use the truck to pickup parts for my Chevelle and household chores and have moved numerous family and friends with it. About 10 years ago I had the rust in the cab corners and doors replaced with new metal and the truck repainted with clear coat this time. Northeast winters and road salt can be brutal here. Over the years I have been upgrading the truck and replacing parts as they wear out. I have replaced the Heat and A/C system with a new electronic one that fits under the dash., one of the best upgrades I have done. Truck has Dakota Digital gauges, LED headlights,LED taillights, heated seats, and a Dash-cam / rearview mirror. I love driving it. It drives like a truck not like the new trucks that drive like cars. I think you should make updates to make daily driving your K5 easier and keep on trucking.

Been thinking about this tread.
If I could find a half cab kit for it it would just become a baby pickup truck for me.

I hear ya.
Caught myself on cctv at McDonald's tonight. I swear, every time I see myself its a shock. I don't feel like that old man I'm looking at...

I got mine in 2000. It has been in many roles over the years from DD to occasional off-road parks, camping trips, overlanding, etc. Lately it has been used mostly for exploring and expeditions. We live in a beautiful area full of hills, lakes, vistas so it gets used regularly in the summer to run to the beach, watch a sunset from on top of a cliff and things like that (we actually have the biggest lake and I can see part of it out the window...). I still will drive it anywhere, like to work or the hardware store, but I don't REALLY enjoy long road trips in it on 38x15.5 swampers. Fortunately the longest thing it usually does anymore is a 4-hour run to our camp. I used to road trip it a couple thousand miles a summer and never wanted to lose the flexibility by needing a trailer.

In sits inside all winter, which is like half of the year, unless I get it out to winch the tractor out of a drift or something. This is all a good fit with the historic plate - $50 one time and good forever. That also helps get low insurance rates as pleasure-use, low miles.

But currently it doesn't run. Prior to this I don't think it's ever been out of commission for more than a couple of weeks at a time.

Not a K5 but my 82 c10

It started as a work truck for the air force, dad got a hold of it in 1991 and used it as a tow rig, daily driver, maintenance truck and camping. At one point it has had pretty much everything you can mound on a bed as a rack or box you can think of.

Now it's used as pretty much everything still, I tow the boat and converted it over to 4wd with go fast parts, it has served as a chase truck, crawler and tow rig. I can have one hand on the wheel going 90 mph down the highway if I feel like it. It's final form one day will be my old man cruiser before it gets passed on

1991 V2500 Suburban, its my daily driver and used to haul animal feed every 24 days and pull a trailer from time to time. I put just over 13,000 miles on it in 2023 and plan to do some camping this spring and continue to improve it.
