It looks like oil dripping from the spark plug?? Its not coming from the valve cover, its clean below the valve cover gasket.

Did somebody squirt a bunch of oil in the spark plug hole during a compression (rings vs. valves) check only to have it barf out everywhere?

i just noticed my low mileage 350 in my dually is doing this as well, although not THAT bad, but the threads on the spark plugs were alittle wet from oil, no idea how it got there either.

weird.

It is metrodps doing it! he said he was going to go visit everyones house and squirt oil under their rigs and on the motors to drive them crazy. At least that what he said when I asked about the six cases of oil he had in his back seat when came to help me.

Who put your plugs in? some places the kids will put oil on the threads like at wallyworld to make them go in easier.

Was it just loose?

It's a 400ci motor. This was the third plug on the passenger side (counting from the front of the motor) come to find out that plug is a real bitch to tighten. Looks like I need a new tool. You need a universal joint to tighten
It, but once you get it snug you can't get the universal joint off the plug socket. It was stuck up against the header. I need one of those flexible extensions or a shorter Universal joint.

It didn't seem loose when I removed it though.

Try swapping that plug to another cylinder, see if the leak moves.
you may have a valve seal or guide leaking oil into cylinder, and it's
getting pushed out the plug at start up. look for blue-gray smoke
at intial start after setting overnight....

With that much oil it should be smoking all the time.

My s.w.a.g is the previous owner might have put oil on it to make it easier to tighten up

If it was that hard to tighten, good chance it was just loose. Clean the block, reinstall properly, and see if it goes away. Look for smoke on startup. Easy enough to try that out before you go hunting for all sorts of other causes.

those hard ones to get to i usually use the bent/angled box end wrenches, they work great at reaching in there, yeah you can only turn the plug alittle at a time, but it does work.

What are you talking about it was a bitch to tighten? You were able to get a camera up there, just tighten it from the bottom, the same way you took the picture.
If your worried about a miss, or think that it may not be firing do this
with the motor running, pull that spark plug wire off the plug, and listen for an idle change. You will most definitely be able to hear it. If you hear an idle change, then everything is good. If you pull the plug wire, and hear no change, than that plug is not firing.

I've never seen this before. That's why I paint my blocks black, so stuff like that doesn't bug me.

Trust me, I looked for that option... not possible (well maybe with an open end wrench, but definitely not a spark plug socket)

- I commuted with the truck this morning, and I had my wife check the tailpipe on the passenger side for smoke. She didn't see any at all. Maybe if its a valve seal it has to sit for a couple days to get enough oil in there to actually see smoke??

had this happen to a Mopar 383 I had a while back. the valve seals were shot and the compression rings on the piston was shot. it was just one cylinder and it never smoked but oil came out the spark plug hole just like yours. and my plugs were torqued with a torque wrench. it never seemed to effect the performance. non that i could tell by seat of the pants anyway. but it made a nasty mess in the driveway so i opted to rebuild. once i had it apart i decided to ditch it and go with something a little bigger
