What does this picture mean to you

Just a thought from a noob mechanic. Is it possible that the threads are stripped fairly good and that it is allowing fuel/oil to be pushed (under compression) out the stripped thread area on the block?

all else being equal the simplest answer is the correct one.

no, your truck does not have the stigmata, and is not spontaniously hemoraging oil from the sparkplugs... that require no lubrication.

oil in the cylinder (making a leap here, as the oil is coming out of the cylinder) only (Edit: Generally) gets there through one of two ways. piston rings, or valve seals.

seems to me its time for a compression test to see if the rings are good, and a leakdown test to check the seals on the valveguides.

I have seen this before, but it wasnt coming from the spark plug hole. I was actually leaking out of the valve cover either right above the plug hole or somewhere near and just following that route.

Yeah, that oil ain't coming from inside the cylinder. You can't have oil coming out the spark plug threads and still get any compression at all. Not to mention if you had that much oil in the chamber it would be burning and you would have black deposits on the plug end.

I sez it's a leaky valve cover ;)

That is what I first thought as well, but take a look at this picture. It's clean above the spark plug.

Trust me, I looked for that option... not possible (well maybe with an open end wrench, but definitely not a spark plug socket)

- I commuted with the truck this morning, and I had my wife check the tailpipe on the passenger side for smoke. She didn't see any at all. Maybe if its a valve seal it has to sit for a couple days to get enough oil in there to actually see smoke??

get ahold of snap-on and tell them you want a harley davidson bike, spark plug socket

the thing is about half an inch long and slides over the spark plug and basically brings the nut farther out to make tightening easier.

it works amazing for headers, use it and a normal wrench and you save yourself lots of time and effort and you still have room to get it tight.

just a thought.

I have those same headers.... just buy a box end plug wrench with a offset.... works great. Kragen or autozone should have them. Looks like you can get to that with a regular open end too.... there were a few of em that I couldn't get to without the plug wrench.

Pretty obivious here but tighten it up... wipe all the oil off and see it it does it again then go from there. Lots of good suggestions in this thread.

i actually have had this happen

it was due to loose plugs on one or 2 that were hard to get to like yours

now when i do plugs i bring many tools

regular spark plug socket w/ ratchet
5/8 box wrench
5/8 open end
5/8 wrench on the end of the spark plug socket

with this combination i can usually get it done, but every plug has its own quirks
