What gears do i really need?

Agree

If you were running an OD trans I would say to go with the .88's even, but for what you are describing your goals as I would go with the .56's, those 36's are not a light weight tire so more gear is going to be your friend.

yea, what that guy said:D

4.56 it is, found a set of hd 10b front, and 14 bolt ff rear with matching 4.56 and the guy has gone through them and replaced bearings, brakes, seals etc....hes asking 600 for that, i was gonna try to get him to 500, is that a good price?

Open, or locked? That isn't a bad deal if they are truly rebuilt. I would go with 4.10's, but 4.56's wouldn't be awful.

I have 410 on 35s and it works good for me. 36s that are true 36 would be good at 456 gearing. 500 would be a great price on those axles if rebuilt and ready to go. 600 wouldn't be the end if the world either if he won't drop price. Let us know how it works out.

I had 36" x 14" on steel wheels with a strong 350 (405hp 390tq), also had a th350 and 4:10 gears. I had zero problems smoking the tires (locked) under my 'burb when I wanted to.

You say you will have a stout 406 motor so I would get the 4:10s and enjoy the freeway driving too.
