i have a 350/700r4/208 with 4.56 gears and 35s and i drive it ALOT if i had the cash i'd throw in 4.88's

Right now I have 3.73's and 35's, with a 700/241 combo. Not so horrible, I don't feel a need to burn out or race people so the sluggishness isn't too irritating. I've been running the truck in 3rd so I wont chew up OD - and have been wondering what gear I should look for so I can use OD and get back to, or maybe a wee bit better than my initial 16MPG. I know it can be done, so don't tell me it can't!!!

I've got 400sb/Th350/np203/d44,,12blt/ W/ 3.07 s / 35's Its a little doggy up hill. But I can still tow another truck uphill in 2nd. And I'm still getting around 15MPG on the highway. But thats at 60mph, and just barely over 2,000rpm..:D

But I do have 3/4t D44/14bff W/ 4.10s that will be going in as soon as I get done rebuilding them, And putting Detroit in rear.

When using the factory setup as a guideline (3.73 gears with 31's in the case of my truck - 350/4L60/241) I calculated 4.21 as the "proper" ratio. This makes 4.10 the closest, but 4.56 would be Ok too, especially since I have an OD tranny. IIRC, with 35's a 4.10 gear has my engine turning 2150 at 75MPH, while 4.56's up that to 2400.

I also seem to recall some testing done with an H2, where they swapped the factory 4.10's for 4.56's and found that the gas mileage on the highway was essentially unchanged (the H2 has hideous aerodynamics and weighs 6400lbs), while city mileage actually improved a bit. I wish I could find that link...

i am running 3.73's with my 35s. its ok on the highway with the od , but i will be changing to 4.10's soon.

I run arround at 55MPH max, just because I tried it for a few trips and noticed, without touching a calculator, a SIGNIFICANT difference in my gas milage. Went from like 1/4 tank a trip (30-40 min) to 1/8 of a tank. Good enough for me, plus more time in my relaxing jimmy.

Since you have a TH350 I said 4.56:1, that is what I ran for several years with BFG 35x12.50s on a 15x8 rim. They were about 34 3/4" tall when new. If you are running a wider rim or a 35 that is not as tall you might want to go with 4.10:1.

If you had OD I'd say at least 4.88:1, but 5.13:1 would be better.

Running SM465/4.10:1/35s". Going 70mph plus sucks. The motor buzzes a little too much for me.Around town and 4 wheeling very good.

Running 3.73 gears with my 35's. Turns around 2850 rpm at 70 mph. The doubler drops the ratio enough for the off-road stuff.

wow.... I turn 2500 @ 60mph with my 40's (38.8 true)... I NEED A NV4500 SWAP!!!!! OVERDRIVE WOULD BE NICE!!!!

old post but had to throw this in..

3.42's (fact.) sm465 and 32's equal way not enough gear, lol... i can do 80 and get good gas milage!!!
if i did not have a granny gear, don't know what i would do..

3.73's and 35's this month

I had 4.56s with a 700 but then i put a 465 and 4.56s were way to low for me so i went back to 3.73s. But i spend a lot of time on the 70+ MPH.

I got 4.56 with my 35"s. Sure dont get the greatest mpg but its great offroad, havent taken in on the highway with the 35"s yet (even tho that was how long ago now ) but my 33"s deff weren't the greatest size on the highway with 4.56s

Since this is an old dead thread :

Nope :D. The answer isn't 5.13, jek. It's 42.

Just check the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...

350/350/203 35's and 3.73. Little bit doggy from a start but highway cruise is nice.

After reading this thread I think the question should be what trans and gears are you running with 35's.

I plan to dump a 465 in place of the TH350 and from what I read here the 3.73 gears are ideal in that situation. So many gears, so little time.

i ma running 4.56's in my 85 with a th700, works great, with out overdrive i think i would go the 4.10 route. if you are going to bigger axles 4.10's are pretty common. as far as lift goes do the springs and shackle flip not the bl. just my .02$
