After seeing that mess , your friend doesn't deserve a 60. Just give him another 10 bolt to trash.

If you do find another 60 looking for a new home, give it to some one who would love and care for it, like me.

If the pinion bearing is gone, that means the seal went along with it, causing water to enter.

Thats what I'd do if he's not beating the thing to bad.
To bad, I have a 10b rear you can have, no front.

Lets see,

(1) Remove cover and no oil comes out.

(2) Find bad or no pinion bearing left.

(3) Ring gear teeth are all broken.

The order of events here are easy to figure out. Water was allowed to mix with the gear oil, then there was a bad seal that allowed oil/water to leak out, the pinion bearing failed because of contaminated oil and eventually no lube, the failed pinion bearing got caught up between the pinion and ring gear breaking the teeth on the ring gear.

It would have been too far to economically drive here, but I just scrapped 2 of them out.
you shouldn't have any trouble finding one.
