What hubs do you run?

I run Milemarker hubs and they work great. I had a set of Superwinch hubs at first and exploded both of them in a month with my Detroit up front. The Milemarkers have been in for 2 years with the Detroit not a single problem.

Re: Manual hub question

You're right Panther, when they're locked, they're locked. Forward or reverse.

My stock autolock hubs make a high pitch klinking sound all the time. I this sound normal, or are my hubs blown?

I would say they are blown. Open them up and check them out to make sure. But regardless I would get manuals asap. When my autohubs when out they would engage off and on. Usually when I was driving on the road, she made a horrible noise when you are going 45 and they lock in your front axle for me.

Re: Manual hub question

Thanks as always Rene!!!! Gotta get some Warns, ASAP!!!

I called Warb this morning and they basically told me that I'm outta luck cause the hubs are just worn out not broken. So they can't replace them. Well I guess I'll go buy some new ones. This time I'll go with the premiums.

Thanks for all the info.

I replaced my Warn standards that have the nylon dial with the Warn premiums. Upon looking at the internal portion of the hub, I found there to be no difference between the two. The patent numbers between the two are even the same. The dialing mechanism is certainly different, so perhaps engagement strength is stronger on the premuims. They're the same price, so that leads me to believe that there is no real difference. I like my new hubs, and either way, you can't go wrong with the Warns.

I spoke to Warn directly and they told me that the standard and premium hubs have the same breaking point. Premiums are not stronger than standards. And they both have identical warranties against breakage. The only difference is that the premiums have a copper exterior locking handle and the standards have black plastic. Just for looks.

I have one stock Chevy and one stock Ford!?!?!?!??!

If Warn will only replace them if they are broken then brake them! Stick one of the splined pieces into a large vise and hit it with a BFH. Same with Craftsman tools.

I'm picking up some standard Warns from O'Reilly today once they come in - maybe I'm just wierd, but I like the way the standard Warns look over the premiums for some reason...

But, we like the word "premium"! That means it's the bestest!!!

Hmmm, maybe I'm not getting them today. I called O'Reilly's and they said my hubs were in but they are Mile Markers...I wanted Warns, dammit!!!!! I have to go in tomorrow and special order them.

We just put SuperWinch Premiums on ours, works like a charm!

Nothing wrong with Mile Markers. I saw a recent article (Peterson's?) where they were testing MM and Warn Premiums. There was no discernable difference. The only thing I remember is that the WPs had 2 O-rings on the dial and the MMs had heavier bolts/mechanism.

The Superwinch are fine if you don't have a locker. If you plan on running a locker I would get Milemarker.

I have used warn premium, milemarker and superwinch. The insides are all identical. I like the superwinch the best. The warns dial got tough to turn in the cold, the mm started to tarnish and discolor within 3 months. If you don't do any heavy wheelin I would but the cheapest of the 3.
