Im looking to pick up so new inner fenders for my truck. I have the dual batteries on the passenger side that go with the diesel. I wasn't sure if all of the inners you can purchase now have the correct mounting plates. Does anyone have any experience with this? I am also looking for a new battery mount tray for the front battery. Thanks

Lmc has battery mounts they have them for diffrent years I bought them for my 77 k5 they bolt up like factory. It wasnt real pricy either like 15 for the tray and 25 for the support bracket.

Called lmc but they don't have any product there apparently so they can't describe accurately if the parts will meet my application.

Was there ever a dual setup with both batteries on the passenger side like that for a civilian truck? I have a CUCV too, and have always considered just going to one battery on each side of the radiator.. or moving them down to the framerail for slightly better COG (I still have the giant GI batteries)

To answer your question though, if you're set on keeping this setup, I'm quite sure that the inner fenders are both the same between military and civilian models, but if you were going to use repro civvy inners, you'd have to drill the holes for the braces and reuse the existing braces that help support the weight of the batteries.

Hope that helps..

I actually was asking about the mount also. I will look into switching mount styles. It may take up less space in my engine bay, and the reproduction ones are inexspensive.

I will look into switching mount styles.

If you end up switching to a civilian style setup, you would then have room to run the civilian air cleaner hose which runs to the hole in the core support (that probably isn't currently knocked out) near the slave receptacle which might give you an extra HP or two with the cold air.... Just sayin :)

The CUCV purists would disagree, but in my opinion, the entire 24 volt retrofit is just a complete mess, and as soon as I get the time/money/motivation/something breaks on mine, it's going to be switched to 12v with civvy air intake setup and serpentine from a 6.5.

Hey super k read the whole thing or stay out of it whats ur advice im trying to be helpful to the guy!

It's all cool.

I don't have an air hose right now so that's not a concern. I would like to see what the other dual battery setup looks like.

Does anyone have any pictures of a civilian dual battery setup? Or is this non existent?

awesome thanks :D

I would think you would need the inner fenders for 81-91 in the LMC book, and the battery trays also. Don't know were you have your radiator over flow tank, but i know on mine the tank mounts through one of passenger side Battery tray holes and to core support.

OK i did not have any good photos but here is what you need. Found these in the Classic Industries on line catalogue part #'s T70125, T70126. When you look at the parts photos on line you will see a flat spot with a clear hole on each one. That hole lets the bolt pass through from the bottom up into a welded nut on the battery tray.
Each inner fender has that same hole. So they should work for ya. I'm sure thats the only attachment through the inner fender. The rest of the bolts go to core support and on the inside of the outer fender.

My overflow tank also seeps a little, and I can't find a cucv replacement so that could also stand to be rethought. Thanks, I just need to make sure this plan wont interfere with any other cucv mechanicals.

Thanks for recommending classic industries. They have much better pictures then lmc.

I couldn't find an 81-87 civvy DB setup, but I found what I'm pretty sure is an 88-98 gasser, but based off of what I just saw a few days ago in an 86 diesel jimmy at the salvage yard, the setups are very similar. At least this will give you an idea what your looking for if you decide to go that route. I personally like it much better than the CUCV setup. Much cleaner.

Just found a 81-87 :) Property of Kota4bye here on the forum. I think he converted to this factory looking DB setup, so he may have more info if needed.
