Hello everyone, new to the site. First off I understand worth is what someone is willing to pay for something. I'm looking at a 1972 blazer that is very much stock(307 4 speed manual) that needs body work from wheel to wheel on both sides. Rocker replacement, some front fender and some rear quarter work. Truck is one piece and everything looks like its there. Owner says it will start and drive with a jump. Looking for a going rate on something like this. Any input would be appreciated. I have been looking on eBay and cl for comparisons, but haven't come up with a number yet. Thanks.

really tough to give you a number without pics. that said, mine was in a little rougher shape than what you describe (although I didn't know that at the time :doah: ) and I paid $1800 for it in the late 90's.

if it runs "ok" and you can drive it on day one, that's probably a reasonable price. of course it also depends on the availability in your area.

Lou,

That truck sounds like a basket case.... "All one piece"...(except for all the rust in the rockers, fenders, floors, etc) LOL! :haha:

Find your way over to the 69-72 Forum on this site and start reading....a LOT! Rust is your #1 concern with a 1st Gen Blazer, or at least it should be. There are several of us that have posted up extensive photos of rust repairs so you can see what is hiding in almost every convertible K5 out there.

What's your budget to find a vehicle? In my experience trying to find a "cheap deal" ends up costing a lot more in the future when you realize how bad the truck truly is underneath.

Caveat Emptor!

Greg, I guess my budget is $2k to buy the vehicle, then I can deal with the body issues at my pace. My friends say that I want this too much, and that I should wait and look for something in the southwest area, but isn't that what everyone does?

if you host them on photobucket or elsewhere, you can link em in the "advanced" reply section...

I've been in the "want it too much boat before too", and it always ends up costing time and money and in my case no useable truck in the end :doah:.

At one point I had some spare cash and was intent on finding a 73-75 K5 (75 was the goal) I happened across a too good to be true deal, a formerly "restored" 75 K5, looked good in the pics, 2 owner truck , and only 80 miles away in VA.
So I go see it, looks decent, hasn't run in a few years, but the engine has definitely been out, you could tell the 1/4's had been replaced, and other then the floors being "soft" it didn't look too bad. So I end up buying it, gave right around a grand, came back with a trailer and picked it up the next day.
Fast forward a month or so, by the time I had torn it down partially I had found the 1/4's to be chinese junk that were rotting from the inside out, the doors were off brand junk that didn't fit right, floors were completey shot, frame was rotted through in at least 2 spots and cracked at the steering box and the entire electrical was trash.
In the end I did have a rebuilt low mile GM engine, a full vert hard top and windshield frame and some other odds and ends, but not a decent workable full convertible K5.

Point is take you time, don't jump at the first one and do your research here like Greg said. In the end I found a 99.9% rust free 86 and have converted it to full vert and am currently building my dream K5, maybe it will take another year maybe 3 who knows, I'll take my time, find what I really want and when it is done it will be :pimp: :D

Tough to say in the NE without pics, maybe like $1500, depends on how severe the rust is, and how bad you want it.

Lou,

Really, if you're going to buy a really rusty (all 1st gens have rust) 1st gen, the best bet is going to be to pony up the $25 for the membership. You will end up on here using this website more than you could ever imagine.

Rust is a killer on these rigs. Shooting off of the hip here, from what you posted, you're looking at 2k in just panels and such. That is, if you already have a welder and a couple of grinders.

QP- If you can't find any off of a donor rig, you'll need to buy some repops. These go for 800.00 a piece. At that time you'll find out that they don't sell blazer qp's, only trucks. Those need to be cut down and grafted into place.

Doors- 300.00 a piece

Fenders- 200.00 a piece

Rocker boxes- 300.00

A ton of little pieces that will run ya another 500.00.

All of this and if you're fast, maybe 6 months of your weekend life. It's just not about cutting and welding. You'll end up with full weekends of just cleaning (wire brush, blasting and such). Those get old real fast and show very little progress.

Along with all of this, once you take the rig apart, be prepared for every nook that you have on your porperty, holding some cheby parts. It's amazing how much space one of these rigs take, once all apart.

Just going to post this now for ya. There is a huge difference in who you get your panels from on a 1st gen. I, unfortunately, found this out late and ordered a bunch from LMC at first. I now have a huge selection of crap panels, doors and fenders.

Best of luck to ya and welcome to the site..:waytogo:

Oh, I spent 3900.00 on my rig and have used the core support, half of the tub, cowl, hood and frame. All of the rest has been changed out either do to rust or the "Might as Well" syndrome. I thought it was a primarily rust free rig, too.

Would love to add a pic , still trying to figure it out. Posting rules at the bottom of page say I can't add an attachment. Showed some pics to my neighbor who's an ex body guy, and he pretty much said the same thing about $1k a side ( me doing it with guidance from him ) should take care off some major issues.

If and when I do buy one, the first $25 I spend on it will be for a membership here. This site has been great so far!

Do like Ryoken said and start up a Photobucket account. Load them up in PB, hit the "IMG Code", copy and paste into your post, hit reply.

A lot of the guys like to do that so the non-members can see the pics. If you attach the pics, only members can see them. I still need to fix pages 2-7 on my thread. :doah:

Here ya go, Lou.. :waytogo:

She is going to be a lot of work. How much do you think that you can get her for?

Is there still a 10 post rule? As in you need 10(or was it 15) posts before you can attach pictures?

The guy says he wanted $4k now down to best offer, I would like to get it for 1500 ish, am I nuts for wanting to save her?
