I just noticed my badges on my k5 say "CheyenneK5" or something like that, is that like a special model or something? Or were all k5' called cheyennes?

just a trim package. wikipedia says this about it:

  • Custom/Sierra — base model. Rubber floor mat, cloth seats, no lower door panel carpet, no headliner, manual door locks/windows.
  • Scottsdale/Sierra Grande — chrome trim, everything the previous trim level had
  • Cheyenne/High Sierra — brushed aluminum interior accents, vynl seats, chrome trim, carpet, air conditioning, headliner, more sound deadening/insulation (inside door panels, in the headliner, etc.).
  • Cheyenne Super/Sierra Classic — wood (brushed aluminum on 1981-87) interior accents, everything the previous trim level had, more chrome (i.e. bumpers and mirrors), tilt wheel, power doors/windows, and cruise control. The "Country Cadillac."

Nope; in the 70's, Cheyenne was the high-end trimline. (Notably in the 90's it was resurrected as the base model, doh.)

Check out

to see all the various options for your year.

Indeed. My '91 V3500 Cheyenne has NO options at all. Unless you want to call radio-delete an option.

Wow those brochures help a lot, but I am really confused with my K5 now. It is an 80 and the tag in the glove box shows the Silverado trim, which explains the interior a little. But the exterior shows Cheyenne at the rear, and nothing in the brochure for 80 says anything about this option. Now I wonder if it could be that someone changed to the Cheyenne tag at some point. I do know that the grille with rectangular single headlights was only on the Silverado package, so that is correct for mine, just wish I knew if they had Silverado badges for the rear bedsides.

honestly, on trucks as old as ours, anything is possible. my 82 has an 85 grille. it adds 15 hp.

that's half the fun of old vehicles, though. you never know what the dufus po did until you start digging around. sometimes it's good, sometimes it's "what the f was he thinking?"

Thats weird, my '91 V3500 SRW is a Cheyenne & its got tilt, air, am/fm (no cassette) but rubber floormats, manual windows & no headliner.

Hmmm. I noticed my door is wired for power locks and windows, but the wires are capped off at the firewall, before the actual foor.

Ive had my k5 for months and and just realized it has a cheyenne badge.

not to steal the thread but it yall posted that the custom deluxe was cloth seats and the higher up versions were vinyl seats. well my 86 k5 was a custom deluxe and had vinyl seats. and the weird thing was they changed the seats in 86 to the adjustable ones, well my 86 had the 85 high back non folding seats. so whats up with that?

I got my vinyl highback non-adjustable buckets from an '87 K30 Custom Deluxe.

I have heard that Custom Deluxe was the 'carte blanche' trim level. I think Scottsdale and High Sierra might fall into the same category.

Most likely right at the crossover of the years so they just used what they had.

Cheyenne was a high-end trim option until about 1980. After that it was knocked down a few rungs.

The heirarchy of trim levels has changed over the years on the pickups. I'm not sure about pre-'73, but in '73-'74 the trim levels were in order of lowest to highest:

- Custom
- Custom Deluxe
- Cheyenne
- Cheyenne Super

From '75-'80 They mixed it up a bit and added some new levels:

- Custom Deluxe
- Scottsdale
- Cheyenne
- Bonanza
- Silverado

In '81-'87 (here's where I'm not totally sure, but here goes), more changes:

- Custom Deluxe
- Scottsdale
- Silverado

I'm pretty sure they deleted the Cheyenne package from '81-'87. Then the brought it back with the "V" series trucks but by that time it no longer had the prestige it had before. I have seen many of the '88-up IFS W/T (work truck) pickups with a "Cheyenne" badge on the side of the cab near the lower rear corner of the door window.

Craig, as weird as this is going to sound, there is an '83 or '84 K20 here in town with Cheyenne emblems on it. :eek1:

Yep, you read that right. The emblem is the correct '81-'87 truck emblem but it truly does say Cheyenne on it. I will try to get some pics of it to prove it.

Craig I do know that 80 was the first year of the Silverado on the Blazer, and the sales brochure doesn't show the Cheyenne option for that year.
