Looks like it might need a spline wrench. I switched to them instead of 12 points.

I haven't jumped on the splined band wagon. My brother was gifted a set, it is kept in the coach. I have used used on the odd occasion, but haven't really put them through a good torture test

Only thing I found that I didn’t like is the taper on the Mac sockets. A quick hit on the belt sander fixed that. My splined wrenches are Snappy and Gearwrench, they don’t have that issue.

I’ve got a ‘77 Jimmy with that style latch.

Now that you mention it....., I'm not sure if any of mine were older than 81.... A few I only had a short while and did work on much.
The only round eye I ever had in my shop, I guess I never paid that much attention to.
