Do you mean a scanner or a laptop to run WinALDL?
'Scanners' are either cheap and basically just read codes, which you can do from your SES light anyway, or they are expensive ones like a tech would use. These ones are by far the best but very expensive. WinALDL run from your laptop is very useful as are several other programmes, but it's free!
What problems do you have? Have you read the SES?

Yea, i need a scanner. my light comes on at high speeds and the speedo does not work. After the light is on for a while it goes out. then the speedo just jumps up and down and the e brake light stays on. I have no idea where to start with this. What is winaldl and ses mean. thx
You should start by retrieving the codes.. All you need is a paper clip..

Winaldl is a downloadable programme to run on your laptop which allows you to watch all moniterable engine data. SES is just your service engine soon light....the one that's bugging you!
