What lift????

Wow, what a thread! Here’s the scoop on the shackle flips. If your going from stock to 4 or 5 3/4" of lift, your going to stretch the driveshaft to a questionable but usable length. I ran mine like this for a long time and it barely worked, it was always at the top of my mind and I busted several stock rear shafts before I broke down and got one to the correct length. The difference in driveshaft length needed for either the ORD or my flip will be about the same since the rotation of the leaf pack will apex right around that point. Most people with blazers do not get a full 5 3/4" if lift but rather about 4 1/2" - 5" with the top on and a full tank of gas. Load the truck up with trail gear and a large spare and your back down to around 4" on stock springs. You will be sitting lower than 4" on an ORD kit with all that weight. Also, the blazers body line makes 1" higher in the rear really hard to see without a tape measurer. A 4x4 truck will see much closer to 5 3/4" of lift so those wanting absolutely no more than 4" I usually send off toward the ORD kit. You will need to look into pinion correction with either flip, this is for proper driveline geometry. Either one may require your e-brake cables to be lengthened or the brackets moved to keep from limiting your flex. You'll probably find that your stock shocks will hang the axle before the Ebrake cables do though. You will want extended brake lines with a 4" lift, but again, your right on that livid edge of pulling on them like limiting straps if you dont hang anything else first. I wouldn't add any body lift to one end and not the other. While I have a 3" body lift, I'm of the mind that lower is better and would not go over a 1" body lift now that all is said and done, but its a good compromise to gain tire clearance if you don’t want to hack up the fenders. A 4" lift is one of the least expensive when you add up what you'll need to run it, but to run it well, you'll still need to make the same mods you would on a 6" lift. Food for thought.

WOW! Thanks for all of the info. I think that I will probably go with your ehobit flip. I do have another question though. What is involved in measuring pinion angle and adding shimms to correct it? How do I know if I have proper driveline angle? What are the expenses involved in correcting this in general? I will be putting in an engine, lift, and other stuff so if it isn't hard, I may be able to do it myself. I just don't want to get into anything too difficult. Also, where can I get lengthened driveshafts? Thanks for all of the help.

I have TC EZ rides, and really like them...the back did sag, but its no big deal to fix. Take the overload off the bottom of your old spring pack and bolt on upside down on the bottom of the TC springs. You will need a new center bolt, you can get an allen head cap screw to replace the center botl that comes with them...i did this and it didnt affect ride, and no saggy butt. You could do the 0 rates, but this is free and works just as well.

I would not tow with a shakle flip in the rear. I wouldn't tow at all.

That said, I have the Echobit flip on my truck, 6" front springs, and a 3" body.

I was talking to Mike last night about towing with his flip. He said you can tow with no problem with his echobit flip. So with that said If you got questions just PM Mike he will be more than happy to answer them.

You think it's sitting lower in the back? I guess I'll have to take another look at it in real life. I thought it was still sitting high in the back

That's him. I know how soft my rear suspension is right now with that flip. I value my life and I'm not going to tow with my '84 with that flip on there.

Regarding the front being lower than the back. When I first installed my 4" lift I got procomp 4" springs in the front (very stiff) and 4" blocks for the rear. With this said and done the rear looked much lower than the front. Recently I ordered Skyjackers 4" soft ride rear springs to replace the blocks and stock rear leafs. I measured the height before and after and the new springs made it exactly the same height. So either skyjacker makes their springs not a true 4" or my stock ones were fine. So I had to add a 2" block to achieve the desired height and now I have noticed the rear has sagged maybe an inch or a half an inch like would be expected after getting the springs in. To make sense of all that rubbish I immagine the shackle flip you speak of with 5 3/4" inches of lift (however I would never run it because I'm sure the suspension was never made to have the springs run at such a goofy angle with the flip) would be fine coupled with 4" front springs.

Thanks for all of the replies and pictures. I think I have decided to go with the echobit flip and just some 4" tuff country front springs. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif After I get everything on, I will measure the rear angles and buy shimms if necessary. (Probably will be). Other than shimms, shocks, and longer brake lines, what else do yall think I will need to run this setup well? Also, what shocks do you recommend (other than rancho) that will give good flex for no more than $40 a shock? Thanks once again.

ok here is some food for ya mind..

This pic shows 6 inch front bds spring
the rear is a echobit schacleflip with a 2 inch shyjacker springs. I did the 2 inch springs because I am the guy with a tone of spare parts, from axel shafts to hubs to brake lines and even a fully set up 14 bolt carrier once I get in welded for a spare too. I plan on the rear being a little higher regaurdless and each wheel well has around 12 inches from tire to lip. I recommend you go with the 6 inch lift because yu will want to after a while, and if you can go with a tire bigger than 35 inches, this tire doesn't really give you those extra inches that a 38 inch tire will, my set up has 11-12 inches of clearence with an unshaved 14 bolt. Also when you do the shackle flip I recommend pm-ing me so I can show you a real easy way to get the pesky bolts off. I also have a 3 inch body lift and will eventually get rid of it, it just isn't worth it in my opinion unless you are a pavment pounder. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You may want to consider...6 inch bds spring @ 220.00/pair
schackle flip @ 90.00?
stainless brake lines by procomp @ 85.00-100.00
zero rate for rear ..under 40.00
drop arm..50-60.00
rims....get the black rockcrawlers..4 for 220.00 to my door
shave that 14 bolt..your time and patiance /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
