I had a Auburn limited slip in the front of mine when I had a Dana 44 got the job done. I'd also look into a Spartan front, they seam to do well too
This is true, but the clutches are not there to bias the torque like a LSD. Once the cam turns, the differential is supposed to be locked tight. So it's open or locked, but not slipping - that would destroy it quickly. The clutch/plate stack is similar to what you see in an automatic transmission (but smaller).FYI the gov-loc do use clutches.
The centrifugal doohicky effects a cam plate that increases the pressure on the clutches.
Just ask anyone who was at Tuttle what they thought of the POS '85 K20 I drove there with a Lock Right as it's only real modification......

I hear lock rights are the latest rage for boatsAs for lockers.
I have had rear Lock Rights and Detroits.
They have never scared me, but I know they are back there, and am use to their quirks.
The Lock Right is definitely more noticeable than the Detroit.
I'll take the small trade offs for the traction.

Completely the Lock Right's fault.

Just an update on the truck, I got my 14bff rebuilt w/the 4.56 gears and a detroit! Luckily I took it to someone who did a great job so far. The detroit is also not as bad as people said with the locker being anoying or loud or dangerous....so on. I've been driving it a lot now and feels great. only down sides are when I take off from a stop on a sharp corner it chirps the tires a bit making it seem like I'm nailing the throttle when I'm not. Second it clunks when I let off-on the gas. Third the 4.56 gears made my rpms go up significantly to 3000 going 65! Annoying! Anyone think 37 inch tires would be too much for a dana 44? Or just keep my 35s and deal with the freeway scream? Thoughts?
It's really not. From what my drivetrain guy said was the short wheel base and or jeeps toyota and light duty wheelers are the ones who suffer from the detroit. They are just too light and short... I have a long bed k20 it's heavy about 5200 pounds with me in it so it's just fine. I have yet to wheel it with this setup. I also just put in my new np241 so my crawl should be pretty awsome. I'm really thinking about getting 37s to make my freeway driving manners a little better but idk if my little dana 44 could handle 37s... I still want to get one of those external over drives though! As I said in the other thread, that's why I'm going 4:10s with my 35's. But I do a lot of freeway driving.
That is really good news about the Detroit! I was starting to worry about putting one in. Doesn't sound like it's that big a deal.
