what are some upgrades you can do to an 84' k5 350 4x4 that will still pass smog in CA? i already have a 8" lift and a flowie. im getting gears but is there anything i can do to the engine/trans/drvietrain?

If you search the c.a.r.b website you'll can find the parts that have e.o numbers and use them .

You can run an Edelbrock Performer EGR for sure , Edelbrock Headers with y-pipe I am pretty sure , and many other things .

I don't remember the link , but I posted the link to the parts listings in the c.a.r.b site on a thread about this about six months or so back .

yea i couldnt find the link. any other upgrades?

I'm fighting the same problem. I want a strong motor and no problems with the refs.

Basically anything that say it's 50 state legal. There are plenty performance parts out there with that badge... you just have to be careful when your upgrading because 1 non legal part will throw a wrench in the whole thing.

To answer your question....

Heads, cam, headers, intake manifold, TBI unit, are all options.
Here is a good cam that will get along with the computer, pass smog, and make very respectable numbers. Best 50 state legal computer cam I've found when looking at the desktop dyno numbers. http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/CamDetails.aspx?csid=91&sb=1

I'm not sure what heads you have but check to make sure your not exceeding the max lift.

Also heres some "cheapish" heads. http://www.jegs.com/p/World+Products/746698/10002/-1
It just depends on what you want to spend.

These heads are the best you can get for street legal. Massive power gains over stock.

Keep in mind that your computer tune will have alot to do with passing smog if you make major changes.

Theres a whole lot of ways to go for chip burning. It does take some common sense and know how and isn't as easy as it sounds but as long as you do your research and have patience it's very doable.

You can have companies burn you a chip for your setup but since your fighting california smog I'd go with a setup that you can make changes on instead of having someone else do it.

Check out www.thirdgen.org . You should be able to find the info you need.

What kind of upgrades are you planning on? You might be able to get away with no tuning depending on your mods.
