I am getting a few weeks away form painting my burb. Been reading through countless hours of what paint to use. I'd really like to use a single stage, I've seen everything from 70$-200$ a gallon for paint and Gardner, then there's guys that swear by rustolem. Just wondering what you guys have used and would recommend. Still not 100% sure on color ...it's either going to be keep the two tone but don't in teal and white, or just single color Battleship gray. I hit the tailgate with the grey just to see how I liked the color. Was rattle can so after stripped it off and primed it.

an air-dried product will always be soft compared to a catalyzed resin....

for single stage, duponts Nason is a good economical line.. I run a custom mix on Mutt.... while it's no Glasurit, it's good for the coin...... ANY metallic really needs to be done in base/clear.. foolish shooting that in single stage in this day and age....

Thanks for the recommendation, probably go with the Nason, I've heard a couple others suggest that. Nice truck by the way, read alot of your post and most of your build thread.

My local NAPA mixes paint in house. Many options, base/clear, single stage, urethane, acrylic, etc. I used Martin Seynor crossfire base/clear system on my crew, turned out great. I did a Baja bug in single stage, good results on that too. My K5 being a wheeling truck I wanted to go cheap. I used tractor paint from Tractor supply. It has a catalyst, thick stuff, needed to be thinned a lot to spray but results are great.

I have had very good results with Eastwood’s Satin black single stage urethane. It’s easy to mix and spray in a garage spray booth. My Blazer is still in a million pieces so not much to say on how it holds up in the sunlight and the weather, but I really like not having to spray a clear over it.

For what it’s worth, I plan to paint my K5 with U- Pol Raptor as as the exterior coat. When mixed with 10% reducer and sprayed through an HVLP it lays out and cures with a fine texture that looks kind of like powder coat. The bid advantage is you can spray it on and coat over it later if you get scratches or whatever. No way I could afford to get a K5 body tub powder coated... and you can’t really repair it.

Thanks again to Ryoken - his threads on this site helped me dive into doing my own painting and even some body work. Thanks man!

That gray is hideous. Try the 1990 gm factory grey. Much nicer color and killer on a burb!

I bet it will look killer when its all put together. I have seen some Toyota's in a very similar color of grey and they look dope.

Maybe hideous but it's mine so, don't see the issue.

Totally agree, it's yours so paint it whatever you like...but...if you think you might sell it down the road, a factory color might help it sell faster and for more money.

Just something you might want to consider.
