looking at steel wheels in the 16" size. specs for the tire are 16x10-16x12 rim width. tires are 38.5x15.50x16" and radials.

what would be the best for highway and trail use. will prob air down when at hardcore trail stuff.

plan on rim stiffiners from kirt at diy4x. we are working on a design as i type this.

these will be 8x6.5 16" rim on dana 60 / 14ff with disk.

I would go with 16x10, 16x12 puts alot of unwanted pressure on the wheel bearings and balljoints because they stick out so far. Plus it will help keep your tire bead from coming loose when you air down.
Steel or aluminum, well steel rims can take a side impact better because they will bend not shatter allowing you to limp to safety, aluminum are stronger in the direction that the tire turns, which is why alot of drag racers use alum. But for rock crawling, I would use steel.

x2 plus it keeps your options open if you change tire size in the future so you aren't stuck with 14"+ wide tires.

The wider the rim the more it will take off the total height of the tire.

The 10" wide will be fine. I ran a 14.50 on 10" wide rims and wished the rims were 9" so the 15.50 should be good on 10's.

i like the way it looks with a couple inches of tire stickin out over the rim.it also helps with rock rash and protecting the rim.i never liked the look of wider rims.looks like the tire is square with wider rims and from what ive heard rides a lil harsher when aired up.

My 39.5/15/16.5 TSL's recommend running 9.75 rim width. But mine aren't radial either. I also agree that a little narrower rim will help when airing down, to not lose a bead.

A good friend has 38 15.50 15 Bias TSL's on 15x10 steel wagon wheels. I would go with the ten inch wide wheel myself

16x10's.

I agree that you can run a narrower tire in the future if you want, and it will retain the bead better.
And, wider than 10's are WAY wide. Currently running 16x10's on the burb with 12.50 tires.
