ok this gets asked frequently i know but im really torn.
for my type of wheeling my blazer gets the job done but i want bigger and bogger tires. a longbox would really help with work as well. im lookin into 39.5s or so to be my final tire size and ill just stick with that. i rarely see a rock but rarely see enough mud either. its 99% of the time a street queen but i like to keep a nice truck. been working on the k5 for a few years now and its a good truck.
here it is for a refresher:
and here are my two options:
short version
1 sell the k5 and build up the crew cab with money from said blazer
2 continue building the blazer even better
long version
option 1
sell my truck for whatever i can get for it then buy this:
http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/grd/489045238.html
what i would do is at least an 8 inch lift with 12bolt hummer beadlocks on 40 boggers for offroad and 37s for on road driving, ive got 8 of these h1s at the shop with my name on em for 200 for 4. 4.56 or 5.13s and a detroit rear and a lockrite for ease, or detroit in the front. its got a 454 th400 np205 and a dana 60 and a 14 bolt for axles.
its originally a srw converted over for the flatbed.
it would have a single wheel bed on it instead of the flatbed.
all in all that would take $3000 plus boggers. plus bull horns ~200 for a nice set. if im frugal it would be $3500 max. (correct me if im way off)
so if i sell my truck for 6500 then i buy the truck for $3500 ive got $3000 to spend, ideally.
it would look something like this, my RC truck.
OR
over the christmas break i will save my pennies and buy these axles:
http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/car/488239620.html
he said he would let them go for 800 for the set, complete and ready to go he says. they only have 1500 or so miles and the front has never been in 4x4. 1410 rear yoke.
i would have to buy new wheels too.
what i would do is put the rear in as it comes maybe paint it pretty if its not, then i would take the 8 lug outers from the dana 44 and put them on my front axle i have now. i like it better for some reason. at that time i might just do crossover steering or at least put the machined knuckles on for later. i have those already, no extra cost but balljoints.
then i would sell my rear axle and the 44 front now 6 lug with extra shafts front and rear i have in the garage for say 450 or so. already geared up and an auburn in the back, i think thats a good deal. that would possibly pay for some sweet wheels/mounting.
so i think i would be out 4-500 on this deal and upgrade considerably. possibly at that time add a front lockrite.
all before school starts january 14th! i wish!! i hope to have bought something by then though.
thanks for the help, i appreciate any advice or suggestions!

If I wasn't so attached to my reg cab Id sell it and buy a crew cab. If something catastrophic ever happened to my truck I would buy a crew cab in a heart beat.
