What the cat dragged home (D60)

Nice catch! You'll have several hundred into parts but you cant beat free with a rusty stick. Mine was much nicer than that and still needed all new wheel bearings, wheel seals and a tie rod. I was lucky and the insides were nice & clean on both the 60 & 70.
 
Yeah, you can't really judge the inside by the outside. My 60 was very clean, but had a worn pinion race. I had bought all new bearings anyways as it had to be regeared to match the rear.
 
I opened up the inside last nightm first oil drained outm and it looked bad, but not horrific, then as much water as oil followed. good thing the only thing I'm reusing in there is the housing itself. It'll clean up where I need it to. I'm going to try electrolysis rust repair on this axle, apparently marine salvage people use this technique a lot. leave the housing in a big bucket with a battery charger for a couple days, and see what happens.
