1972 K-5 350/350 Blazer: I just found a remnant of a broken bracket (attached with two really large like 9/16" or 5/8" factory-looking bolts and nuts) to the lower edge/section/lip of the C-channel frame just aft of, (posterior, behind, caudal to) the rear shackle mount for the FRONT driver side spring. It appears as if it broke/sheared where an attachment hole had been drilled (weakest point?). What ever broke it was major, as the flat, bottom lip edge of the C-channel frame is curled upward. Again, the bracket remnant looks factory, but certainly could have been Bubba at his finest too. Does anybody know what was attached here??? If I had to guess, I'd guess maybe a tranny skid plate, but that's justa S.W.A.G. Thanks for the help! -Lee

To orient you, the orange "S" the rear shackle for the driver side FRONT spring. Broken remnant of the mystery bracket is circled in yellow (Yes, I do have better pics of it)

Even closer yet. Looks like it been here a while.... Maybe since 1972??? The 3 smaller arrows show the fracture line

From pretty much directly underneath, arrow shows where the fracture occurred at a once-round hole.

From the passenger side looking toward the driver's side.... You can see the frame's C-channel lip got bent upward on the inside when the bracket torqued and broke

From the passenger side again; frame lip bent upward

Mine had that too and only on the driver's side, looked like it was meant to stop the spring shackle from flexing further back.
Yeah, that is a factory safety piece to keep the spring somewhat in place to try and keep your steering in a failure situation.

It was from a recall from back in the day. The factory springs didn’t have military wrapped springs, the idea was in case the main leaf broke the bracket and the strap on the front hanger would help to keep the spring in place. My 71 gmc has the welded on strap on the front hanger and the bolted on bracket. In 72 the strap was riveted on at the factory.
