In the upper left , with the wires coming off it?
Its even with the shafts balance weight , like its pointing at it , if that matters.

It is a speed sensor. My guess is that either someone has put an aftermarket cruise control, or a digital speedometer on it at one time or another.

Some transmission retrofit kits use these as well

Yeap it is a pick up for the after market cruise system. It looks like the old Dana add on type it worked off of a magnet taped / glued to the drive shaft.

So if I dont have cruise control , I can get rid of it then?

Not just yet, you need to trace the wires and see where they go to. There is a reason that it was put there. You don't want to find out what the reason was by removing something you may need. Trace the wires and if they are cut then remove it. If not you should be able to figure out what they go to from there.

I though about that a little bit after i wrote that.
Besides I dont want to leave a bunch of wires hanging under there anyway , I want it to be as clean as possible.
Speaking of clean , Now that the leak is fixed I need to take it to the car wash and clean under it.

i was just about to tell you that, otherwise do you even use the CC?
It doesnt have one [ anymore ].I dont see where it was though :dunno: theres no holes in the dash , the turn signal looks original...nothing left over under the hood either.

This was what the piece looked like that went to the throttle linkage. Sometimes they mounted it on wheel well.

They had a control box like this they stuffed under dash.

The switches some times were mounted on the turn signal with a strap on set up. Others were a flat bar the had two holes in it to mount it. The set up I had was one that went over the turn signal. Hope this helps you with the hunt for traces.

Thats it ! The wires are that color if you can scrape enough crap off of them to see them.
Theres just nothing left on or around the carb to pull on the linkage.

Well I got under there today and traced this piece underneath , it just went to the brake hose. I cant find anything else , so the PO must have taken it out....oh well.
