I had a guy offer his 1972 blazer to me for $2000. Some of the specs are
350,4spd standard,4" lift 33"tires,6pt cage, hard top, hardly any rust so he says. I have never had a first gen blazer before and was wondering what i should be looking for. I was thinking of offering him $1500 for it $2000 seemed a little high.

that price is about right if it's in descent mechanical shape. I wouldn't sell mine for less than 3 before I put the fuel injection on it. First gen is worth more from the bottom line than the others to start with. So if you can get it for under 2k than you've done pretty good.

I Just bought mine in June... And other than normal run of the mill stuff, I'd think the thing to look for is completeness. You'd be suprised how rare some of the little stuff seems to be. No Repop hardtop stuff seems to be available so you have to hunt for parts.
Suspension, brakes, drivetrain, interior, and most of the body parts seem to be easy to find, and fairly inexpensive.

As stated, completeness. All that "little stuff" is killing my budget! Check for rust in these places:

Inner rocker boxes
Outer rockers (usually first to go so no biggie there)
Rear quarters inside fender behind doors
Front right fender (inner/outer/and rad support)
Battery tray
Door pillar inside door jamb
Windshield frame (NO REPRODUCTIONS!)

Those are the typical spots.
If it runs and drives most say they are worth at least $1000. Things like A/C, 4-speeds, CST trim, Posi rear, etc drive up the value a little bit. Less rust the better. But on trucks this old it's really up to you, the buyer, to determine what it's worth to you given how much you have to fix to make it what you want.

I agree his asking price isn't out of line for the described vehicle. Rust would be my major concern - unless your skilled at that type of repair - it takes alot of money to fix.

If you can, get some pics so we can give more input.

First Gen.

Check for RUST!!!! Then when you're done looking at the truck, look for more RUST. The only good thing is all the patch panels are available. Later J.

RUST! RUST! RUST!

I'd check for RUST! (in the footwells, rockers, windshield frame)

....did I mention look for RUST!? :D

1st Gens are the best of the best in the K5 world, but rust is a killer. Check out the "Cancer Support" Thread in this forum if you don't believe me.

Beyond that...1st Gen parts will be harder to find and more expensive than the later model stuff, so if you don't really understand the "1st Gen Thing"...and care about it, you'll just be irritated that everything costs more than the 73+ Blazers.

Running/driving 1st gen with those mods would be a good deal in my area.

Kinda depends on what your wanting to do with it.
You'll save money in the long run buying something "nicer" if restoration is on your list but for a driver/wheeler 2K is pretty decent IMO.
If you can get it for 1500, that's a real deal.

Did anybody happen to mention the rust thing yet...? :p:

I think someone should be telling him about the RUST!!!!
You guys seem to be over looking the most important part.
Check for rust and check out cancer support group!
Later J.

Sounds pretty much exactly as mine was when I bought it, I think that's a pretty good price barring any unforseen rust. If there is absolutely no rust then that's a steal.
