what trans on 454?

im lookin at buying a new trans because my current th350 was rebuilt by my trucks previous owner and it has a hairline crack in it(no relation... i dont think)

anyways i might have a pretty good deal on a th400 and was wondering if thats a good match, 454/th400

i was talkiin to a guy on the phone at the local trans shop and he said a 700r4 was not heavy enough for a 454, idn? is it?

so whats a good mate to a 454... another th350/th400/or 700r4?

also, what do you guys think of a np231 t-case
personally iv never heard of it, but im a newbie, so...

A 700-r4 will quickly die in heavy truck with a big block unless its really beefed. The torque those motors put out is pretty awesome. I would go with a TH400.

np 231 is s-10 type trucks. if you need to go th400 you need a new adaptor to tcase and input gear. or get the whole setup from a th400 unit. and the drive shafts will need to be reworked. longer frt and shorter rear. also dont forget th400 has higher low gear then th350 . th350 is better low gear.
