I know I either have the np208 or the np241. I wanted to know how I can tell the difference. A thought to take into consideration is I am deployed in afghanastan so my wife will have to look for me. If anyone can give me a specific thing to look for to tell the difference that would great. I will have to explain this to my wife over the phone and try to make it make sence to her. Thanks for any help you all can provide me.

some basic info would help give you good info...

what model truck do you have and what year is it
what tranny is in it...

both are aluminum...

the easiest way i tell the diference is the tailshaft.
on the 208 its 1 piece to the chain case and has tall ribs going down it.

the 241 is a 2 piece that has 4 bolts about center holding the 2nd peice on with no ribs.

Should also be a round metal tag rivited onto the back of the case. Its about the size of a silver dollar. Might need a rag to wipe off the dirt/grease/grime to read it though. Speedometer cable goes tight into the snout of the transfer case on a 208. Not sure bout the 241.

Sorry it is an 88 Jimmy 350 TBI 700r4. It had the towing package not sure if it was factory or not. I know it is one of the two but not sure which. The tag is no longer there. was removed by previous owner or by me one some rocks. Do both the X-cases hang low or is there a difference between them.

both cases hang low because of the factory crossmember.... for some reason chevy let it hang down while ford clocked it up. I would bet its a 208. they were a lot more common in the 88.
