I have two western non unimont(old style) plows with the cable controlled pumps. I have tried selling them even fairly cheap so I can buy a Unimount/ ultra mount for my duramax. But haven't gotten any worth while offers. Right now I'm thinking about converting / building a unimount style system. I would buy the truck mount just because it seems they can be picked up fairly cheap 200-300. And I could use it to help fabricate the lift frame, so if I did sell it in the future it would work with any unimount setup.

So here is my thought process so far today:

Time is money, don't seem to have enough time to work on my buggy yet alone, fab up a completely different plow setup.

Wiring harness' I could make one easily, but it is time consuming Also I really do not want to hack into my dmax's wiring, will have to regardless. Otherwise complete harness would run 300 or so.

I would need to swap to a unimount pump on because the motor is different, and it has the solenoid controlled valve/ manifold, to keep the cab clean as possible.

Use the shiz I already have a 94 2500 with a tired tbi and a not so tight trans. It works but it seems I have to dump a bunch of money to keep it running every year. Nothing plow related just, things that used to work that are failing or have failed. Power windows do not work, wipers only work on Hi, needs a complete new exhaust. Cab corners are completely gone. But other than that it works great hahah :haha::haha:

I may just be going crazy because the snow is about to roll in, and I know i'm going to have to fix something on the plow truck before I can plow anything.

So what would you do

have you been over on www.plowsite.com free and tons of info and free sales/wanted section also. i am there under same screen name.

those old cable style pumps were o.k. till the cable or the box on the side went bad then big bucks.

Idk if youve ever plowed in a newer truck but they kind of suck. just my personal opinion. my dad seems to love his newer ford. im not into it mainly cuz its a ford but also cuz i cant see ****. in my truck (96 std cab shortbed) i can see everything and its a real pleasure

ya i like mine with 35" tires and 1.5" lift in the seat so i am up in the cab and can see over the hood.

i like the truck. we have one at our company just like it. actually 2, we just picked up a 1 ton and the other is a 3/4 ton, Both western 8ft. The 3/4 ton just got 2 new subie seats and my blazer center counsel. the seats probably got lifted about 2 inches. its prime now.

I'm not from snow country, but i'd keep the plow on the beater.

Putting a plow on a newer dmax seems like a waste to me.

So what if you have to put money into keeping teh 94 running. If its keeps the wear and tear off a nice dmax IFS truck, its worth it.

Depends how big of a factor reliability is, the middle of a blizzard isnt when I want to be fukin with replacing CV shafts or any other part associated with the IFS, or an older truck in general when theres still another foot of snow coming.

Well with snow already on the ground, got the 94 running again, and will finish this winter with it. Harbor frieght trickle charger took a crap, battery was dead. Got it charged, hooked everything up, after running to tractor supply to pick up new pins. Surprisingly there is not anything wrong with the pump/valves this year. It goes up, down, left and right without any adjustment needed(thats a first).

Only issue I have is at idle. It will idle just fine for a few min then it starts loping. Idle goes high, then low, and will eventually sputter out. I'm thinking that its the IAC or egr valve. I may rob that off the buggy to test.
