I will be going 14b pretty soon but i still can't decide what to do to the front. If i won't break stuff i'll go with cromo's, locker, and gears up front stuffed into the 10b and a 14bff out back. I might go with a 14 sf for the extra clearence and 6 lug. How much is it to convert the front 10b from 6 lug to 8 lug?
what would you do?

I am running 35x12.50's with a mild-hot 355.

You have got to be kidding me. With as many posts as you have, I would sincerly hope you know there never was a factory 12 bolt front axle.

There are 3 axles available.

10 bolt front
D44 front
D60 front

The 10 bolt and D44 are basically the same strength. The D60 is stronger then the other 2 but it is harder to find and usually expensive. For 35" tires I wouldn't run a D60 unless you are right foot wheeling or can get one for a good price.

If you drive with your brain and not the gas pedal then a 10 bolt or D44 can handle 35" tires pretty well.

I never really had any reason to look into 12b's so i had no clue...

I want a 14b more for peace of mind than anything... i don't like the idea of a tire flying off in the middle of a mud pit or on a hill. I will be driving it with my foot and brain...

I want a strong rear axle at least and might beef up the front but i may end up with 37's or 38's in a year or two.

I agree, for your use a D60 is a waste of $ (and it'll be a lot, trust me). A ff14b for the rear is a good idea though... it'll definitely "get ya home" if ya frag the front.

how do you edit the poll?

Hey, i havent read your stuff lately,, im just curious as to what you think your doing with the motor (ot) ,,,,because when you do all this stuff to it and it dosent pass smog you arent going no where with it, unless your building a rig thats going to need to be trailered to a trail. This is my problem. Thats why i ended up having to sell my blazer, and going with a 75 and under truck. Better start thinking about that before you end up with a 20 thou rig that cant go anywhere like Rjfguitar :shame: Just lookin out.

we all learned a stern hard lesson from that

I baught a 3/4 ton chevy from some whacked out druggy for $300. Then I quickly cut the axles off. Also got the 400SB and the TH350 out right away. Ditched the rest in a dumpster. I was afraid that guy would come back for the truck. Gave him a fake name no address and Its been 3 years now. Thats how I got my 14 Bolt rear and dana 44 front. I have 36x14.5 super swampers on it now. If you play in the mud you may want the dana 60 front. I have bent 10b,12b rears and bent and cracked 10b fronts and bent my Dana 60 front that I had before the Dana 44 I have now. I AM ABUSIVE. I love the gas.

sup man,

long time no bs :D

i found out that i live 30 min away from a "non-smog" county.... tehama, or siskyou IIRC so i'm gettin a PO box and will have to have my mail forwarded to my address or pick it up but i won't have to pass smog... i was one of the lucky ones.

anybody know how to edit a poll?

Isn't trying to upgrade a 10b like trying to polish a turd :p:

Seriously tho, if you have the slightest thoughts of thinking about running bigger tires or doing something more hardcore later you may as well just save up for the D60 now

the 10 bolt rear is a total turd... agreed... but the 10b front isnt a bad axle for 35-36" tires. Like Big said, if you think you may want to go bigger later, might as well save for a 60 now.

I don't think you could lose a front wheel by snapping an axle. Unless it somehow took the knuckle out with it. I don't know anything about the 10b rears though.

so if i bust a 10b axleshaft in the rear my tire will fly off but if i bust a 10b axle shaft in the front it won't?
Correct. You'd have to bust the knuckle like he said, or the spindle. Don't see that every day.

so is the back more prone to a wheel flying off than the front is or is it about the same?

still can't decide whether to save for a d60 or just pack front 10b with cromos, gears, and a locker.

I like the option of auburn ected for the front 10b but they only make em for 10b.
