what ya'll think of my "doors"?

To be honest, it looks ghetto. not very aesthetic looking and that latch WILL vibrate loose. I wouldnt feel safe. Jus being honest.

IDK..... for basic hand tools and skills...looks OK,,,,but I agree badmix....needs a better latch to be safe...:waytogo:

found this other kind of latch that is spring loaded...a lot more stout and stays locked open or closed? i just put a coat of paint..n they're kind of growing on me. i wasn't real happy cause i couldn't get my drawings to work, so i had to kind of simplify my idea.

I think eveyone is used to seeing tube doors, but without a bender you did good. Definitely try to get a GM latch on it though.

thnx man..oh i didn't think i was doing anything new or trend setting..haha. i guess they'll work.

From a pure design standpoint ( amateur with no training at all) 90s don't do it, 90* angles if there are too many of them don't look too nice.

I think those look decent. But I would have curved or cut some curves into a couple of the pieces.

But hey you got tube doors and I don't :D

A couple things that would help the look would be to get some plate and cover the hinges. IMO, that is the biggest eyesore and it seems it would be so easy to fix.

Also, like others stated, square tubing is boring, but you could throw in a few gussets on some of the inside corners and that would look cool. I know there are a ton of places that sell some cool design gussets really cheap, like a few bucks per.

Plus itll increase strength without too much added weight.

And a GM latch would be the best thing.

That latch wil not stop the door from being pushed inward and hitting your body in the case of a side impact, roll over, etc...

A real door latch mounted to some real steel that surrounds the door striker would be better.

While I agree that he needs a better latch, from the video it looks to me like the body is in the way of the door pushing inward, just like it's in the way of the factory door?

I like em. I'm a big fan of function over form, so if they work, and the 45* & 90* cuts saved you a headache and some man-hours, then it sounds like a win-win.

A protractor is a great inexpesive fab tool, a latch that goes on your striker is going to need a way to open, like a handle. A few months of putting weight on that dead bolt will start to tear into that soft thin metal.

The only thing I worry about is those sharp corners/edges. If you hit a bump and whack your arm/knee/whatever you're probably going to be in some pain!

10 plus years of demo derby, those stronger doors will push that body pinch weld out of the way like a knife through butter. Notice the factory striker is somewhat nail head shaped. The latch grips the 'shank' and in the case of a collision the latch can't pull off of the 'head'. The striker is screwed into the reinforced B pillar and that is what keeps the door from entering the cabin, not the pinch weld.

When you build your own doors you want to mimic the factory attachment methods whenever possible, for your own safety.

i have since done some "new" damage...soft top and passenger door.

for a latch i used a spring loaded foot bolt...badass..little bit rattlin sounds but as for function...bamsy works like a champ.
i have also added a new method of attaching tarp on the rear most portion
like i say..as for function...worx great
thnx guys for watchin'....i know i'm a rooky....and all my fabrication is a tad shakey....but damnit...it works!!! haha
built not bought right!
