New to this forum. Have a 1990 GMC Jimmy and I want to change the front end looks of it. Thinking about the 1984 grille, bumper, and stacked headlight. What your favorite front clip? Here's mine now.

Why do you think they manufacture aftermarket 1991 front grills to retrofit into to any year square body...because they are the best looking.

It you actually want to see at night with an 89-91 square you don’t want the quad headlights. One or two places sell housings to rid yourself of the crappy sealed beams and they know it so they are priced accordingly. I’m pointing one finger at LMC for the insane price they want for the ones they sell.

I devalued my truck by putting the 89-91 single headlights from a Cheyenne truck. Devalued is a funny point because it only means something if I wanted to sell it. My truck gets driven at night sometimes and I’d rather see if Bambi was coming out of the woods before she devalued my truck more by wiping out the front clip.

At least with the single headlights I’ve got a wide variety of modern non-sealed beam housings to use with much better LED light sources.

Part of what I thinks it’s cool is the fact that it isn’t common and not every truck has that setup.

In stock configuration the 1991 headlights are pretty weak, but I modified my set up. I believe you have seen this video before. I wired my headlights so all four come on at the same time, and all four are high beams. The low beams have been removed. Along with the KC driving lights in the front my truck is pretty well lit up.

That’s good it works for you. I had relays on mine and it wasn’t enough. I take the sacrifice for better light. Mine with relays, leds with projector beam housings will throw a lot of light down range. Way more than my quad light setup ever could on high.

I currently have a 77 round eye I modified with Hella glass housings and led conversion bulbs (brightest vehicle I own) and the 87 V30 C&C with the econo work truck 5x7 halogens. As for light output I have no idea on the 91 quad setup because my 91 crew cab had the 5x7 base model front end. (old Air Force truck). Thinking back to when I started driving these things 30 plus years ago none of them had great output.

I love my roundeye but think the 91 still looks good.

I personally wouldn't change from what you have, even though I like the earlier version that you want.
I agree with @ZooMad75 about the lighting challenge, I helped a buddy swap his core support out for the dual light version. ( GMC still)
But I will keep mine as it is, because I think that they look good, (a hint of mean) with the GMC version. The Chevy one is more chrome, so more flash, IMO.
I have the obsolete Bosch "E code" housings in mine, in all four locations, plus a spare pair on the shelf. All 4 come on with high beams, with relays, after my home-brew rewire job.
The 4"×6" lights are easier to find upgrades, for sure.
Pic, just cuz..
