What your favorite front clip on the 1981-1991 models?

Why do you think they manufacture aftermarket 1991 front grills to retrofit into to any year square body...because they are the best looking.

yeah- i like them, but im not sure i like them any better than some of the others. I have probably just been brainwashed that they look better, because they usually mean the truck is newer... and has a lot of the other newer features to go along with it? serpentine belt system, better transfer case, possibly galvanized body Sheetmetal under the primer coat... half tons had marginally stronger front axle shafts... etc.

anymore, I would probably prefer whatever is easiest to find and replace, or if it puts out more light than another style (but that doesn't mean I'm just going to swap from whatever was factory either - fairly easy to put some aux lights on my bumper and leave the factory stuff alone too!)

The 91 style, and 1980, are my 2 least favorites from the square body front clip choices.

83-84 Custom Deluxe....my fav..cuz thats what I have :cool:View attachment 438517
this is what my blazer has -used to think it was my least favorite, and although I used to think I would change to the quad style? -because I though it would be easier to find aftermarket off-road lights that would fit in there, or easier to wire and have all 4 on at the same time?

In reality, I cannot "out drive" the light that it already provides. I have a back and kidneys that keep my "lets go racing" ideas away from the K5.

I feel like its putting out better light in stock form than my 1990 suburban did?
never had a need for more than what the factory high and low provides with this set up. easy to find replacements at local stores... so far, i have not even given serious thought to putting additional light on my bumper. Now the back is a different story! cant see crap, and need some light back there!

Change the front end out for round eyes!

I thought that was mine for a split second. Did you use my bumper plans?
No. My son based it off of the old TNA design and used some of a pdf file that Lneilsen sent me.
Then he added the light holes and we did our own end caps.

The 83/84 & 89/91 GMC single light front ends are some of my favorites. Just has a true truck look to them in my opinion.

The 85/88 Chevy quad light is so very common but just has a great look to it - kind of the spokes person pic for 80’s era squares.

But I think the most effort went into the 83/84 Chevy quad light set up - the taper on the outer fins and the blacked out treatment really made the parking lights stand out. If I had a 81+ square that was to be a perfect driver it would have this front end.

I Have an '88 and wished it had the later grille and headlights. Just think they look WAY better, IMO.
