whatcha think of this welder?-for sale used

I have the SP 135+ not T.

The 135+ is rated for 5/16" using flux core and less with using gas. I have used both. The gas limits the thickness of the material that can be welded and you can tell when comparing the two. However, the gas weld is a lot smoother weld and less clean-up is needed.

I'd say if the machine is not worn out, anything under $350 is a good buy!

they are a couple years old i believe. look to be in pretty good shape. im going to find out what the price is tomorrow and if its good i need to buy it right then since there are over 400 students/potential buyers. what would be a good price for a used one of these? whats the highest i should pay. new ones are about 540, so i figure if they want over 4 bills, then i might as well get a new one.
what do you guys think?

cool, thanks for the info everyone. I'll find out tonight what they are going for. cant wait:D

I got my Hobart 140 from TSC brand new. I love it. Is was $440 I think. Not a bad price. I was able to weld most of the sheet metal on the floor pans without much blow through on the lightest setting. It is the 110v model. I am runing 75%Ar 25%CO2. I cant get much more penetration than a quarter inch, but I cant beat the portability and versatility of a 110v unit. A 220v unit would have been better for more penetration, but Im planning on getting an onboard premier power welder for that :D. Choose what would be best for your needs. I havent exceeded its capabilities yet.

As stated above, I bought my VERY slightly used Hobart 135 for $233, $289 shipped.

Worked perfectly right out of the box and I have welded up to 1" plate with multiple passes with it.

135, is, IMO, plenty for any home hobbyist. If I used it more than 5 or 6 times a year, I might have gone bigger.

I really wanted the 175/180 but considering the cost and the fact that this is as big as 120 volts goes, I have ZERO regrets. I took it to the 4wd show and a guy used it with a generator in the parking lot to fix his link mount on his Toyota.

IMO, nothing beats a 140 or so amp wire feed welder for home projects. If you need a bigger machine, get it later, but I think you'll find yourself using the small, portable, 120v machine more than anything else!!!!
